Pre-race routine:

Set up transition, nothing special.
Event warmup:

Light stretching/rolling out (there was a bunch of yoga mats and foam rollers for general use at the transition area -nice touch.
Swim
  • 00m
  • 880 yards
  • / 100 yards
Comments:

I started in the water, most everyone else did a dive start from the dock, Everyone went flying/diving over me when we started and so I was immediately BOP. I passed a couple of people but overall, the swim was...eh. I didnt train a lot for the swim so its no big surprise I didn't feel stronger in the water. Still, when I got out there was a good number of people behind me.Mind you, I told myself going into this race it was going to be a workout, not a "race", I was going to try and not be competitive but when I saw I was doing better then I thought, I got a good boost.
What would you do differently?:

Dive start with everyone else. Obviously train more.

  •  min/mile
What would you do differently?:

train on hills.
Post race
Warm down:

My family came to see me finish, this is the first race of mine in the past 3 years since I started racing that they've come to so it was a huge fun thing to see my 4year old at the finish line cheering me on. Amazing feeling.
We ate some fig newtons and walked around and talked to some other racers I saw on the course, it was a really nice event.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

lack of hill training on the run. Bike chain is loose, must fix asap

Event comments:

the course wasnt exactly too hard for my ability but it was definitely harder then other sprint Tris or runs I've done.

Course: HILLS and more HILLS. Did I mention the HILLS?!?! My chain fell off 3 times and I had to get off my bike, put it on, start up again, twice it happened as I was going up hills so starting back was HARD and very awkward. I reached 39mph on a decent, thats a land speed record for me and I felt like I kept up a good pace on the few flats but generally it felt like one climb after another for 12 miles.

Course: Hilly and a cave! This was a hard run, way more hilly then I thought and a confusing train run through the woods...the highlight of the run is it went through a 150yard long cave, it got very dark, almost pitch black before you come out... they lit it with a few lanterns but I had to slow way down and really watch the footing. This was a tough run, I couldn't catch my breath for the first 2 miles.
