SheROX Triathlon Series
70F / 21C
Sunny
Total Time = 2h 02m 53s
Overall Rank = 1180/1468
Age Group = 33
Age Group Rank = 184/215
Pre-race routine:

Woke up at 5:00. Drank some water and a protein bar.
Event warmup:

Arrived at transition area around 6:00. Completed some stretches and met up with my friend Natasha who was running the tri with me.
Swim
  • 19m 15s
  • 820 yards
  • 02m 21s / 100 yards
Comments:

Once I entered the water, I got too caught up with the excitement and couldn't catch my breath. I couldn't get in sync with any swim strokes and had a difficult time consistently breathing. I ended up doing more back and side stroke than freestyle. I was not pleased with my swim and got really frustrated. The last 2 laps, I did start to calm down a little and was able to focus on my strokes and breathing.
What would you do differently?:

I stayed towards the back and side of the pack and would continue to do that. I need to stay calm and focus on my strokes and breathing rather than focusing on speed.
Transition 1
  • 04m 41s
Comments:

Transition went well. Overall my T1 time improved from last year by almost 2 minutes!
What would you do differently?:

I need to make sure my feet are dry and that all the sand from the swim is removed from my toes!
Bike
  • 58m 58s
  • 14.17 miles
  • 14.42 mile/hr
Comments:

Bike was good despite the headwinds. I was able to beat my time from last year by 1 minute!
What would you do differently?:

My bike computer stopped working mid-way so I wasn't sure of my speed. When I got off the bike, my knees were throbbing making me think that my bike seat is too low. I need to investigate this a little more.
Transition 2
  • 04m 9s
Comments:

T2 was also good. As I mentioned before, my knees were sore from the bike so I had to walk it off a little bit before moving to the run.
What would you do differently?:

I would have liked to run with the bike to the transition area instead of walking.
Run
  • 35m 51s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 11m 32s  min/mile
Comments:

I was able to run for almost the entire course compared to last year where I had to alternate run/walk. I would have liked to have picked up my pace a little but my goal was to run for the majority of the race so I needed to conserve my energy.
What would you do differently?:

Increased my pace
Post race
Warm down:

Walking and general stretching

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Mind over matter! I had to fight some negative thoughts and work through them which was difficult.

Congratulations!!!!

I hope you think of yourself as the accomplished athlete that you are. You've come a long way to get here and especially on the run you did so much better than last time--and actually, 2+:00/100 swim is NOT BAD especially since you struggled!
