Total Time = 58m 14s
Overall Rank = 84/384
Age Group = M40-44
Age Group Rank = 11/21
Pre-race routine:

Woke up and loaded bike and gear in to my truck
made a bagel
Took a warm shower and get dressed for the hour drive to the race site
Event warmup:

Put on the race wheels and went for a short ride to check the bike out
Set up transition
Gel ~ 30 minutes before start
Swim
  • 09m 3s
  • 440 yards
  • 02m 04s / 100 yards
Comments:

This was a run in/ stand on shore start. I stood back some and when they started us a lane opened up and I went for it. I had to go hard to get out but it worked this time. Some bumping but nothing too extreme.

After rounding the first bouy my sighting got bad and I was drifting to the left and unable to draft.

After I rounded the 2nd bouy I headed home strong.

Time includes time to swim exit mat
What would you do differently?:

good overall swim for me and am happy as I am seeing some improvement-- just need to keep working
Transition 1
  • 01m 30s
Comments:

I took sometime to collect myself getting out of the water and into T1. my overall transition was smooth and went as planned
What would you do differently?:

run to and through T1
Bike
  • 29m 54s
  • 10 miles
  • 20.07 mile/hr
Comments:

I pushed getting out of the park and tried to take a small drink. My stomach was not happy and I felt like I was going to barf. I backed off the drinking but still took my gel at mile 8
What would you do differently?:

need to keep working on the engine
Transition 2
  • 01m 9s
Comments:

Had a woman stop at the dismount line and I assumed she was going to do a flying dismount. When I jumeped off I had to push my bike and myslf around her and my bike/bike shoes banged around and scared everyone. I thought I had lost a shoe and stopped to double check.
What would you do differently?:

do not assume at dismount line and be clear of people ;)
Run
  • 16m 36s
  • 2 miles
  • 08m 18s  min/mile
Comments:

This was a solid run mentally! I have been struggling lately with my run and I pushed through the whole run...with a good sprint at the end (left too much) so I know I can push harder
What would you do differently?:

Push harder during the run and have confidence in my training
Post race
Warm down:

collected my thoughts--met my goal of breaking an hour
Jogged back to cheer on fellow athletes

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Since I have been having a hard time with the run....I did not push it. I know I can push harder in the run.

Training will improve the swim and bike too!

Event comments:

This was a tri for first timers but my AG was on fire and fast!

I was at this race too and enjoyed it. I am pretty sure I saw you fly by me on your bike lol. Really solid job man and congrats. I think I will be back next year and will be trying to get my times to where yours are (I am a Clyde).
