Rudy, Niantic Bay on August 7th will be my first Tri.  Glad I chose Niantic over Ocean Beach/Amica if you're doing that one.  Not that we would be competing or anything.  Watch out folks, Rudy will be posting another PR at this race!!!

I've done the Niantic Bay two years in a row - lots of fun - super flat course

This is an awesome race and if I wasnt getting my shoulder scoped on the 15th Id be in!! It is entirely likely that I will come watch or volunteer if I can drive by then.

Just so you know the run is flat..the bike has a one big arse hill and a few rollers.

IMO it is a much better venue than Niantic in that the water is MUCH nicer..no icky weeds and rocks when you are going in for the swim or out..(depending on which way they are doing the swim this year).

Id go, but am working. Be careful on the 156 part of the course. The road doesnt have much of a bike/breakdown lane, if any at all, in parts and the road is heavily traveled, especially in nice weather! When we preroad the course last year..we skipped that part..of course that is the part that has the big hill!!..oops!!

Yeah,  I recall a nice flat ride when we pre-road last year and then the nice little surprise of that hill on race day.

I'm probably pulling the trigger and will do this one again.  No excuse really as I can roll out of bed, be there in 15 minutes, race and be home before 10am with plenty of day left to do whatever.

It looks like I am not racing Amica or Niantic - I am scheduled to ride in horse shows boths of those weekends (because 1 expensize hobby just isn't enough).  I will probably race the Crabman Sprint on 7/31 at South Kingston beach RI.

I did the bike loop twice and it's not that bad.  The biggest challenge is the road conditions in several areas (pot holes and patches that have settled).  The hill on 156 seems okay after riding in Middlebury the past few weeks.  I will say, the course is confusing if you use mapmyride on the iPhone - it's hard to tell which way the loops tie into each other and I didn't bring the printed map with the arrows on it.  They did mark some of the route using green and white arrows, but the mile markings didn't make any sense, so I'm thinking it was for a different event.  Also, if you ride it, look out for the dead raccoon on the right side of 213 - PU!!!  Lots of people (with dogs) out there riding and running - more than any other place I've ridden this summer - not very friendly though - must have said "hi" or "good morning" 75 times with not a single reply.  Oh well.

Ha!Its those stuck up Waterford/New London peeps...think they're all that!! Yeah, I somewhat recall getting everyone a little lost on those loops too. We took a wrong turn somewhere in Waterford so pointed out the way we were supposed to go afterwards..no worries it will be perfectly clear what direction to ride on race day..just follow the bloke in front of you!!

Is that true???  Only 1%, wow been feeling a little low about having to give up full tris due to knee and back issues and only doing the swim portion of a relay team.  If what you said is true, that lifts my spirits tremendously!

I'm not sure if that quote is true, I copied it from an article that I read on this site concerning "hitting the wall" with training and not improving after reaching a certain point.  I liked it, made me feel good, so I copied it - seems like it gets a lot of peoples attention here because I keep getting asked about it - I suspect in this environment the number is more like 85% can swim a mile, but if you dilute it with the general public, I suspect it drops off fast.

watch out for the jellyfish!  Last year when we were having a heat wave, there were swarms of them..distinctly remember seeing 3 hanging out just below the first buoy.  One woman in my rack got stung on her face.

Also they do not close traffic for the bike..this caused some disturbances last year.  Run course is very flat and the last mile is along the coast line.

Have fun!
