Swim
Comments: I loved the start. They started 8 people every 10 seconds. Much better than the large group start of last year. My swim felt long and hard, but good. I never really felt like I was using good form. I don't swim straight. I like open water swimming. What would you do differently?: Practice more open water swimming to learn to swim straight. I just swim to finish. One year I hope to swim more aggressively. Transition 1
Comments: Gobbled down a half of peanut butter and jelly sandwich. drank a few gulps of gator aid, put on a shirt, watch, hat, helmet, sunglasses and five fingers. Had to run a sort of long distance with the bike before I could hop on and go. Bike
Comments: Went out fast. At mile 3 I was tired out and slowed to a more reasonable pace. I thought my time would be faster not sure what the deal was. Lots of u turns where you had to completely slow down. 2 lap race. First lap was fun, second lap was alone. I started in the last wave so there weren't tons of people on the course. GU at the start and near the one hour time. Water bottle fell out so I had to go back and get it. It was leaking so I dumped the water in my empty water bottle. What would you do differently?: Train more. Start of slower. Transition 2
Comments: ran bike in. helmet and hat off. ran out What would you do differently?: nothing Run
Comments: My run felt like I thought it would good and long and hard. My legs felt heavy, but not terrible. I was OVERJOYED because I didn't have knee or calf pain. What would you do differently?: My watch was set wrong for the bike and run section. I have it set to stop when I stop because I run in DC often and this works good for the stop lights. However, I didn't realize that it stops in tunnels and underpasses. So during the race it kept pausing even though I didn't. I am bummer because my pace isn't accurate. The pace they give isn't exactly right because of the placement of the timing things. Also I love use my mile pace. I haven't uploaded my time from my garmin to my computer because my cord is packed or at the other house. Post race
Warm down: found family. drank a gatorade. Ate the best food I have ever had at a race. skipped the shuttle and decided to walk back to transition area. It was a long way and we thought it would be good for our legs. Got our bikes and rode to the car. What limited your ability to perform faster: training and lack of pre race focus on the race. I guess you could say Life was a distraction. Event comments: Great race. I will do it again. Last updated: 2011-04-07 12:00 AM
