Subject: RE: Bike Course Comparison - IMWI vs. Full Vineman Haven't raced IMMoo yet, but lived in Madison for many years, so I know the roads where the bike course runs pretty well. Have done Vineman (both the Full and the 70.3) and I'd agree that the VM course is generally less hilly. First half of the loop is more rolling than the second half (pretty constant, actually), but there's nothing terribly steep on the course until Chalk Hill, which is pretty short. So with the VM loop, basically, you get 28 miles of mostly constant rollers--culminating in a decent climb around the mid-point--then about 12 miles of mostly flat terrain, until around mile 40 when you start to climb on Chalk Hill Rd. Toughest part of Chalk Hill (at the top) is really only about 1/4 mile, but that's plenty when you hit it the second time around mile 96 or so. BTW: I bet most people who've done the race would agree with me that the hills on the run course at Vineman are tougher than the hills on the bike...that catches a lot of people by surprise. |
