Pre-race routine:

Woke up around 4:30. Went to bed really early so I got plenty of sleep. Tried to make hotel room coffee. It didn't work. Had some yogurt and got dressed. Left the hotel around 6:15.
Event warmup:

The walk to the park was my only warm up. And struggling to get my wetsuit on.
Swim
  • 00m
  • 2112 yards
  • / 100 yards
Comments:

I had a hard time seeing the bouys. They were dark red, not sure if that was the problem or if it was just me. I didn't have a very direct swim.

I was nervous about the bike so I told myself not to push the swim.
What would you do differently?:

Better sighting.
Transition 1
  • 00m
Comments:

I was really slow. I wanted to make sure not to forget anything. I had planned to take my time so I'm ok with the slow T1.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing. Hoping when i get more comfortable with longer races this will get better.
Bike
  • 00m
  • 56 miles
  • 0.00 mile/hr
Comments:

This course crushed me. I was either going up or down. There was very little flat. I wasn't able to eat or drink as much as I should. I was out there for almost 5 hours and maybe had 500 calories. At mile 44 I hit a wall. Not sure if it was lack of nutrition or just too many hills. Came really close to walking up the last hill. Thankfully I didn't.
What would you do differently?:

More hill training. I'm not sure what else I could have done.
Transition 2
  • 00m
Comments:

I could had a hard time walking after the bike. My legs were done. I made it to my spot and someone had racked their bike where mine should go. It seemed like it took forever for me to move the bike and put mine in. I had to sit down to take off my bike shoes and out on my running shoes.
Run
  • 00m
  • 13.1 miles
  •  min/mile
Comments:

The run was flat and shady. Running was really hard after the bike. I ran as much as I could and walked the water stations. The stations were about every mile. I ended up walking more than I planned to but I had nothing left. I just wanted to finish and be able to run through the finish line.
What would you do differently?:

Not be so tired from the bike.
Post race
Warm down:

Had some Recoverite and an Oreo. Got my stuff and walked to the hotel and took an ice bath. I hated it but my legs felt pretty good the next morning. Then out for pizza and beer.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

The bike. I was unprepared for those hills. I'm not really sure how I could have trained for them. We don't have those hills in Baltimore.

Event comments:

Great race! Everyone was wonderful. I'm not sure about the post race activities. Everything was pretty much over by the time I finished.

Congrats on finishing!!!  I was there but withdrew after one loop of that bike course.  There was no way on the world I could have done that out and back again.  So hard!!!

(Were you the couple I talked to at dinner?)

YES!!  That was me (or us).  I'm sorry to hear you withdrew.  It was brutal.  Hopefully Louisville will be your race!  Good luck.  Can't wait to hear about it.

For the record, you weren't the only one to withdraw.  There were 23 of us at the start, right?  According to the results only 17 finished. I will not be going back next year.  Once was enough.

Christy

That's awesome!  I won't be back next year (I hope I am pregnant then) but I might go back at some point just to finish it.  We'll see.
