Pre-race routine:

Got there early, had a little panic when they called for everyone down to the water and My friend hadn't arrived yet with my race packet (She picked it up a day earlier for me).
Event warmup:

Brief swim, not really enough.
Swim
  • 13m 14s
  • 400 yards
  • 03m 19s / 100 yards
Comments:

I think I swam good. i passed a bunch of people, and swam straight.
What would you do differently?:

More swim time in training..
Transition 1
  • 07m 48s
Comments:

There was a VERY steep hill up to T1. I was not ready for this, and was winded going up it. I never caught my breath..
What would you do differently?:

I guess practice hills more, or choose a flatter event.
Bike
  • 40m 50s
  • 10 miles
  • 14.69 mile/hr
Comments:

Hills! Was not ready for the hills. Overall I had a solid bike. again I passed several people, however I was SLOW going up the hills. The broken wheel did not help. I ended up walking the last hill because my brakes were rubbing so bad.
What would you do differently?:

Train on hills..
Transition 2
  • 01m 36s
Comments:

Could have been faster, but just couldn't catch my breath from the hillss
What would you do differently?:

Be better prepared.
Run
  • 28m 59s
  • 2 miles
  • 14m 29s  min/mile
Comments:

DISASTER.. I ended up walking more than half I had no legs for the hills. The only flat part of the course was the swim....
What would you do differently?:

I'm a brand new runner, but was disappointed in my performance. I can and will do better
Post race
Warm down:

Jumped in cool lake and sat there like a walrus for a while.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Hills...

Event comments:

I really had fun! I thought the hills were too steep for beginner event and did not match the description of "Rolling Hills" Several people were walking the bike and the run. With that said, I had a FANTASTIC feeling when I finished! I achieved a goal, and even though I struggled a lot I met my time goals for the race. I wanted to be top 50 and finish between 1:30 and 1:40. I did both..

Nice job out there! That course is very hilly. Sorry about getting in your way in the kayak...
