Subject: Movie with or about New Orleans as a setting/backdrop

I posted this on another website that I visit daily. I've been to NO twice but, some movies still give me the better image of what New Orleans is or was or should be remembered as.

1. Tightrope with Clint Eastwood as a detective with a dark side

2. One of the Bond movies was there I think?Anything else.

A Streetcar Named Desire

Captain Sisko's hometown where his dad runs a cajun restaurant. (ya, I'm a Star Trek nerd)

Oh, forget the Bond movie. Go rent (or go to Netflix and order) "Dancing to New Orleans." Documentary explaining why and how New Orleans is, or was, the musical soul of the US.

Frank's Place
Always for Pleasure
The Big Easy
Hot Pepper (about Zydeco musician Clifton Chenier)
JFK (a lot of the scenery is NO and the culture)

Also, the first several installments of the Ken Burns Jazz series.

Go to www.imdb.com and search for "New Orleans" as a key word.

I remember now...  Bridget Fonda as a spy went to NO to assisinate a politicio... whats the name...

it had Nina Simone music in it....

yeah!!  Point of No Return.

can't think any others off the top of my head... The Big Easy with Dennis Quaid.   Didn't John Goodman also do a New Orleans movie?

My MIL gave me this really corny video I didn't much like it.   About Cajuns, I remember the best line "you really love someone when you can watch them eat".

Lucy, I'd love to know which movie your MIL gave you!  Most outsiders think we're uneducated, barefoot, and toothless!  Most of us are none of that....we just talk funny, cher!

Runaway Jury. The movie reminded me of how photogenic the French Quarter is (was). Sigh...

I forget.  I think it went out in the Goodwill pile. It was bought for a buck on clearance from the video shop.   However, I'm sure it will come to me and I can always ask her.

In the book, the Runaway Jury was set in Biloxi.  I don't remember the movie, didn't wanna watch the movie as the book usually gets butchered.

Someone mentioned "Interview with a Vampire". Wonder if Anne Rice's house made it. What about Cafe du Monde? Well, it seems trivial now.

Supposedly the French Quarter fared pretty well, with some flooding, but nothing destructive.  At least that's what I've gathered from reading different news accounts.

I'm still thinking about going "home" for Christmas.  I hope they have some stuff cleaned up by then and I can spend some money in NOLA to support the economy there.
