Subject: Time to adjust to new aero position?
After many years of endurance riding, inc 1st HIM last summer on roadie w/aerobars, I invested in my 1st tri/TT bike last fall.  I'm middle-aged so position is not too aggressive (~9cm drop, which is 3-4cm more drop than my roadie w/clip-ons).  At first just 45min ride in aero would bother my neck/shoulders, but gradually worked up to 2hr rides.  Did my 1st century on the tri bike today (solo @ Z2 ave HR, 5:54 clock time inc some urban traffic stops) & neck/shoulders were complaining after 60-65mi.  After 70-75mi I had to sit up periodically to stretch.  I've got ~3 1/2 mo before my 1st IM.  Is that typically enough time to to get adjusted to tri bike position?

sounds like you should be fine.  You'll have small breaks (that is, time to sit up) during your IM bike split. I made an attempt during my 112mi NOT to ever come out of aero, but still had to sit up to grab new water bottles, around a few turns, and when I had to pee. (haha) so you should have a few opportunities to "rest" in there.

Do as many of your rides between now and then in aero as possible.

Thanks for the reassurance.  Love the extra speed with tri bike, but I'm finding it more of an adjustment than adding  clip-on aerobars to my roadie.  I was afraid this process might take 1-2yrs vs months.  Just have to spend more time in the position. Fortunately, yesterday's ride confirmed my saddle/shorts combo was one I can tolerate for 6hrs aero.

I enjoy 'no stop' 40-50mi spirited group rides & did my HIM bike leg (flat smooth course) essentially 100% aero pos. Only sat up to grab bottles. I think my plan for the 112mi will be for a single pit stop for 'nature break' & special needs bag.
