Pre-race routine:

Got up, ate a bagel, drove to the race site and set up transition. It was really, really cold, so I stayed huddled up in my sweatpants. The area where I was sitting flooded with sewer water from too many toilet flushes. Yuck!

Too many same color buoys and kayaks. I got way, way, way off course, which is new for me. I swam about a 300 too much trying to get back on to course.

I got out ahead of my wave in the first 100 and couldn't tell which was the corner buoy since they were all the same color and the boats were blocking line of sight. After the race, I suggested the race director should put different color buoys at the corners. He agreed.
What would you do differently?:

Pay more attention.

I was slower than last year. What? It felt faster and stronger. I was surprised to see it was slower. The race was two months earlier. Maybe not having as many outdoor rides was the issue.

Get outside in April even if it's cold.

Well, it was a little faster than last year, but not enough to make up for the horrible swim and slower bike. Overall, a little disappointed.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Getting off course on the swim. Not riding outside enough. Being only the fourth race of the season, I still had some kinks to work out.
