Generally speaking there is no real need for a taper prior to a sprint distance race anyway. The race itself will probably be shorter and less grueling than most of your workouts.
I disagree with this statement, as a blanket statement at least.
For many people, a taper of a week or more is probably counterproductive, mostly because they LACK intensity and volume that a longer taper is supposed to help with.
That being said, I think that even a 5K race could have a taper, if it's your important race. Maybe that taper is only a day or two, but even a week of reduced volume with high intensity would be appropriate for a 5K. |
