i agree with mike here.  most of my training for 70.3 distance was long stuff @ 75% or shorter stuff higher then 90%.

for 75% to work i think the distances need to be significant, riding there for 30 min is probably not as beneficial as riding for 3.5hrs at 75%.  at least that is what made my bike alot stronger.

OK here is an update: I did the ftp on the flats as instructed by my coach and am happy to report that I surpassed my expectations!

I managed to get my head out of the equation......and it went very well.
