Swim
Comments: TOUGH swim. Could never catch my breath, had to stop for a second to calm down, didn't feel right until last 150 meters. Was SHOCKED when I came out at the same time as my "Feeling good" performance two weeks ago. Was expecting around 11:30 I felt so bad. What would you do differently?: Nothing really - it was just an "off" day. Luckily although I didn't get my dream 10:00 split, I still put in a decent time for me. Transition 1
Comments: Finally solved wetsuit sticking to my elbows problem, but still likes to stick around the ankles a bit. Much better, was disappointed in this time. What would you do differently?: Practice my transitions, something I never do. Maybe end all OWS workouts with a nasty sprint to get nice and hypoxic and practice. Bike
Comments: Holy crap! New bike PR. Amazing considering: 1.) Pileup at the mount line, something I've never had to deal with before as a straggler on the swim. 2.) Being held up for traffic at a turn. 3.) Hitting Big Ugly, realizing that my two lowest gears aren't working, and having to mash it up. 4.) Having to hit my brakes on a descent right before the other big climb because of traffic and having to climb not only without my granny gears but having lost all momentum. What would you do differently?: Check bike more thoroughly before race. Only other slowdowns were out of my control and since I set a PR, I ain't complaining. Transition 2
Comments: Ugh...was so pysched to see I was a minute faster than PR coming in that I forgot to hit lap. At least that explains my appearantly horrid run time, since it's included. Did start to run out with my helmet - boyfriend had to yell at me. What would you do differently?: Once again, practice. I could also do flying dismount although I'm admittedly a bit shy of doing it after my nasty spill last month. Run
Comments: Freaked out at this time at first, but includes T2. Cramp in my left calf off the bike, had to do some walking first half mile. First mile in general was brutal. Doing an uphill at 5K pace made me feel the lack of speed and hill training. Quads felt fine so think I kept it perfect on the bike. Spent the last half mile literally afraid I was going to puke before the finish line and ruin my time, so definitely put the effort out there. What would you do differently?: Stay injury-free so I can keep my milage up and introduce speed and hillwork. I usually shine during the run, but today it cost me the podium - I would have had 2nd AG with a normal run but two girls beat me who usually wouldn't have (according to my boyfriend.) Post race
Warm down: Stood in lake to cool legs. What limited your ability to perform faster: Lack of practicing transitions and coming back from running injuries. Last updated: 2011-08-01 12:00 AM
