TRI for FUN Triathlon #3 - TriathlonSprint

View Member's Race Log View other race reports
Rancho Seco, California
United States
TBF Racing
85F / 29C
Sunny
Total Time = 2h 13m 50s
Overall Rank = 339/386
Age Group = 35-39
Age Group Rank = 25/34
Pre-race routine:

Just get there on time!!!!! Note to self, do not allow husband to take "the route that HE remembers" to the race venue...We got there with barely enough time to sign in!
Event warmup:

Get wetsuit on paddled around in swim warm up area for about 15 minutes
Swim
  • 35m
  • 805 meters
  • 04m 21s / 100 meters
Comments:

The swim went well, I was able to keep my head in the game and continue forward movement. I rarely did a breast stroke, and was able to power in to the finish from the last 25 yards or so--that's a first! Also a first--I actually passed people!
What would you do differently?:

I am still very uncomfortable with swimming in a large group of people--I would stop whenever I was in a pocket of people...something to work on, as well as drafting
Transition 1
  • 05m
Comments:

Suit came off fairly well, but I had decided to put the tri-top on AFTER the swim--it didn't want to play along, and I kept dropping it.
What would you do differently?:

Just swim with the tri-top on! Continue to work on wetsuit removal.
Bike
  • 1h 00m
  • 16 miles
  • 16.00 mile/hr
Comments:

I am overall pleased with my biking, I was passing many people; however some were also passing me on the uphills--luckily my bike goes VERY fast downhill, so I usually caught them.
What would you do differently?:

Work on getting uphill in a more efficient, speedy manner. Overall, continue training for speed in general.
Transition 2
  • 02m
Comments:

I was having issues remembering what I needed, but I did okay.
What would you do differently?:

practice transitions.
Run
  • 35m
  • 3 miles
  • 11m 40s  min/mile
Comments:

I felt really good on my run. I actually ran about 3/4 of the run rather than giving up and walking often. I found myself running past and beyond the 'goal points' that I planned. I was quite happy with this run.
What would you do differently?:

Keep on training, aim for longer distances of running without breaks.
Post race
Warm down:

Walked around expo, ate some pasta and watermelon (best treat ever!)

What limited your ability to perform faster:

My training, I need to train harder--as in doing my training as if its a race, not just lollygagging through it.

Event comments:

TBF is very organized--at least it looks that way from the 2 races I have done with them this year. Rancho Seco is a good place to do the races, I just wish they could close it off to traffic.

Kate - way to go! Best part of all this was your run, I think. Just look at what you said -- ran past goal points, passed folks, little walking, etc. Awesome job.

Swimming in a pack is a new world from the pool, for sure. Work on your stroke, so next time you can just power past them!
