Sunny
Total Time = 1h 22m 40s
Overall Rank = 139/779
Age Group = M 45-49
Age Group Rank = 15/59
Pre-race routine:

Normal race day morning
Event warmup:

Swam a couple hundred yards in the pool to get the heart going.
Swim
  • 11m 48s
  • 600 yards
  • 01m 58s / 100 yards
Comments:

Disappointed with my swim... Things were going great until I rounded the 2nd buoy... I then veered off to the right and stayed wide the entire way back to the beach... probably swam more than 600 yards for sure! Garmin in open water mode showed I swam 828 yards... not entirely accurate but the time conversion matches my perceived effort!
What would you do differently?:

Stay closer to buoys! Start my watch when I start my swim...
Transition 1
  • 02m 7s
Comments:

Sort of long run from lake up a hill, through the Rec Center and into the parking lot.
What would you do differently?:

Not wear socks... but breaking in new shoes and did not want blisters.
Bike
  • 43m 54s
  • 16.2 miles
  • 22.14 mile/hr
Comments:

THRILLED WITH MY NEW BIKE... new Trek Equinox TTX arrived Wednesday night... I put it together, did a self fit, rode it once and then rode it on race day. I was shooting for 20 mph average and did 22... average wattage was 205 but I was looking for 225. I was able to stay in the aero position nearly the entire ride despite not enjoying the saddle. I as absolutely jazzed that my bike time was 120th in a field so large!!!! My fastest bike split ever by more than 2 mph.
What would you do differently?:

FIRST AND FOREMOST... the saddle is history! I need to work on shifting still but otherwise very pleased.
Transition 2
  • 01m 4s
Comments:

The bike finish snuck up on me and I was unable to remove my feet from my shoes prior to dismount... otherwise the transition was good.
What would you do differently?:

Take feet out earlier... pay closer attention to course... I was enjoying the ride too much!
Run
  • 23m 49s
  • 3 miles
  • 07m 56s  min/mile
Comments:

Could not get my legs moving very well on start... first time off the new bike into a run... took longer than normal to get legs under me. Was looking for 7:30/mile average and ran 7:54/mile average. It was hot and the cold wet towels were great! Lots of traffic on the narrow path.
What would you do differently?:

Get some bricks completed with new bike.
Post race
Warm down:

Good walk!

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Saddle on new bike and somewhat poor navigation on swim.

Event comments:

OUTSTANDING event by Team Magic... love the tie dye t-shirts and towels... will definitely do it again next year!

Sorry I missed you again!  I looked, but never did find you.  My wife was doing her first race, so I was a tad distracted.

Great race, BTW!  Very strong in all three events.

Thanks... one of these days we will hook up... any chance you are racing the 2nd Annual PT Solutions event in Montgomery next month?

Thanks for the kind words... swim sucked... if only I could swim in a straight line I could have cut a couple of mins there... Frown

The swim was tough - into the sun on the way back!  I never saw a bouy on the way back - I saw a few splashes and followed those.  Luckily I managed to swim to about the right place.
