Swim
Comments: Thought I had a pretty good swim overall. I went off course a few times, which ended up costing me a bit (probably could have taken first place in my division if I had not overswam the second bouy. Most importantly, I was able to stay calm in the water- I had anticipated for a panic attack and had practiced my backstroke at the swimming pool, but I was able to swim freestyle the entire time. What would you do differently?: Sight more often- I will need to practice sighting drills in the pool. I've also learned to breath every 2 strokes during open water swims. I tend to breath every 4 strokes while swimming in the pool, but I will definetly be practicing 2 stroke breathing, as well as doing more speed drills. Transition 1
Bike
Comments: Had a very comfortable ride. Easy flat course. Was able to keep about a 19mph pace. What would you do differently?: I ended up slowing down at one point because I thought I had missed the turn for the second lap (the course was a 2 lap ride), so I slowed down to ask some of the volunteers/other competitors if I had missed the turn, since I was terrified about getting DQed. Turns out I hadn't quite made it to the turn for the second lap, which was very clearly marked, so I ended up slowing down for nothing Transition 2
Run
Comments: Had the worst stomach cramp for most of the run, especially at the beginning, so started out pretty slow but was able to pick up to a good pace. I found that shouting words of encouragement to my fellow competitors was really uplifting for me as well, and enabled me to keep going. What would you do differently?: I had a good run, really couldn't complain. Post race
What limited your ability to perform faster: First race, so not exactly sure what I was doing all the time. Event comments: Overall, a very fun and enjoyable first race. I will definetly be doing this one again next year. I had a lot of fun, and am looking foward to future races. Needless to say, I'm hooked on Triathlons. I can safely say that I will be sticking with Sprints for awhile. I thought the race was just the perfect length to be challenging, but not over taxing. Last updated: 2011-08-05 12:00 AM

Woke up at 5:00 am, after a night of very little sleep. My tri bag was already packed, so loaded that into the truck, as well as my bike, and we left around 5:30 to head down to the race sight. Ate a bagel with cream cheese and orange juice while my husband distracted me with silly stories to calm my nerves. Got to the race site, and set up my transition area.
Did some brief stretching, and went for a quick jog just to warm up my legs. After I put my wetsuit on, and headed to the beach, did a little bit more stretching right before my event.
