Sunny
Total Time = 3h 05m 55s
Overall Rank = 35/67
Age Group = Men 40-49
Age Group Rank = 9/11
Pre-race routine:

Relaxed and watched the morning unfold. Ate a bagel and banana on the drive to the race. Energy chews about 1/2 hr before race and a gel about 15min. before. Felt great about how the swim looked until the organizers said they had to put out the other buoys... hahaha.
Event warmup:

Putting on my wetsuit... that is a workout in itself.
Swim
  • 29m 38s
  • 1500 meters
  • 01m 59s / 100 meters
Comments:

Great swim. Water tasted horrible. Note to self, don't drink the water...
What would you do differently?:

Try and get into rhythm earlier.
Transition 1
  • 02m 30s
Comments:

Forgot nutrition... this may have had adverse effects later on.
Bike
  • 1h 27m 12s
  • 44.5 kms
  • 30.62 km/hr
What would you do differently?:

Aero bars. All of the cyclists that seemed smooth and relaxed were in aero. A few of them passed me, but I passed some of them as well. Need to train on some muscular endurance and try to get some more speed.
Transition 2
  • 01m 3s
Comments:

Nutrition needs to be worked on.
What would you do differently?:

Nutrition...
Run
  • 1h 05m 33s
  • 10 kms
  • 06m 34s  min/km
Comments:

CRAMPING!!! First my calves off of the bike on the way up the first hill. Then my quads on the way up the first hill on the second lap. I was abel to work out the calf cramps after about the first 500m but the quads stayed with me until the end. After all of the saline water from the lake and the Gu on the bike an run, you would think I would be okay.
What would you do differently?:

Nutrition and hill training... need more work on nutrition and lots of hill training.
Post race
What limited your ability to perform faster:

Hills!!! and Cramps!!!

Event comments:

Had a great time and will definitely do this one again!!!

Someone did help me with my wetsuit in transition, and if it was your wife then definitly a big thank-you! Laughing Are you the one that was in the yellow honeycomb tri suit? I think my wife will be running the Lacomb Tri with you. Good luck with that one.

And yeah, that run course was a killer!

Yeah that was me! and that was my wife! I have a hell of time doing up the damn zipper as well!

Flexibility=0

I thought the run would be a nice leisurely flat run...not!

I have had cramps in the past for my quads as well. Not sure if I was better hydrated but this time I had an electrolyte table from Popeyes, not sure of the brand but it seemed to help(or it could be something else altogether!)

I am finishing the season with the sprint in Lacombe. Should be a fun race from all reports. Short swim and a downhill bike! not sure about the run though...
