Swim
Comments: Water was perfect. Almost flat, clear, and warm. I was not initially happy with my time, though. I was really about 20 minutes coming out of the water, the extra time is the hike up the beach to the timing mat. Later, though, when I saw my time in relation to the other ladies in my AG, it was about right. Once I got going, it was a good swim. Took me a while to clear the pack, though, and I had to "swim gently" for a while, which I know slows me down. What would you do differently?: I have got to figure out how to have a better start. Transition 1
Comments: Loooong run to transition. It was more like 3+ minutes, but part of the swim time includes the run up the beach. What would you do differently?: Nothing. Once I was in transition, I was out of there pretty quickly. Bike
Comments: The ride felt great. I passed tons of people, which I always love to do. What would you do differently?: Time to start taking the shoes off before dismount. I can do it. Transition 2
Comments: Aargh! Wrong rack. That cost me some time. What would you do differently?: Know where I am going. Run
Comments: This might have been a good run except for the very unpleasant man who wouldn't move over while walking on the narrow two-way part of the run, causing me to run into an oncoming runner. His pissiness was astonishing given I was the one who was nearly knocked down. The ensuing angst may have lead to a severe side cramp that forced me to walk and then actually stop for a bit. Once I started running again, I was okay, but never did get a strong pace going. It was really, really hot and humid, so I'm sure that had something to do with it. What would you do differently?: Punch the rude guy in the nuts. Post race
Warm down: Rode my bike back to the car. What limited your ability to perform faster: Heat, humidity, and jacka$$. Event comments: Excellent race with fabulous volunteers. Everything was on time. My only complaint was there was no water station as we headed out on the run. That would have been a huge help. Other nit picky issues: swim distance on the shirt is wrong (1/4 mile?); transition ins and outs could be marked...I had no idea how it was set up until I heard someone talking about it; would be nice if there was a sport drink on the run course as well was water. I was completely discombobulated in the huge resort area, but finally got my bearings. After checking in, getting some dinner, and picking up my stuff, I organized everything and put myself to bed. In the a.m., drove to the beach side of the resort, parked, put the number on my bike, and started to walk to transition. Realized it was going to be a long walk, so just rode the rest of the way. Body marked, racked, set up, and ready to go.
10-minute run on the path. Very, very hot and humid already.
