Total Time = 2h 38m 32s
Overall Rank = 24/85
Age Group = M 40-44
Age Group Rank = 0/
Pre-race routine:

PowerBar Harvest for Breakfast with some water and Cytomax. Lay out transition and generally just soak up the scene.
Event warmup:

None. Felt loose and didn't feel the need to wear down especially with the heat.
Swim
  • 30m 52s
  • 1500 meters
  • 02m 04s / 100 meters
Comments:

Sighting was interesting. Unlike mass start swims I've done in the past, it was more difficult with the pack spread out to pick up a draft or a line. Instead on one alrge buoy at each corner, they had like three which was making it hard to make sure you reached the far one without confirming by sight.
What would you do differently?:

Sight better
Transition 1
  • 02m 16s
Comments:

Long run in such a big transition area!!
What would you do differently?:

Not much
Bike
  • 1h 09m 18s
  • 40 kms
  • 34.63 km/hr
Comments:

Good course - curse the wind. I would have loved to hammer that course in calmer conditions.
What would you do differently?:

Drink more earlier.
Transition 2
  • 02m 12s
Comments:

Pretty simple transition but it was still a long way from dismount to my rack!
Run
  • 53m 55s
  • 10 kms
  • 05m 23s  min/km
Comments:

Hotter than I was used to but I think drinking at every aide station kept the cramps away. Decent tempo but needed to focus more on breathing.
What would you do differently?:

More fluids in last third of the bike
Post race
Warm down:

BBQ and Beer

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Wind both directly on the bike and the effort that took out from the run.

Event comments:

Not as big a deal as I anticipated MIM would be but the field of athletes was really first class. And of course the food after was not bad either(BBQ!)

I agree Ron. Of course, I think if I had a beer after an Oly, I might need to be carried out on a stretcher!

Great job, Paul!

Way to go Paul!! The wind definitely could have calmed down a bit. I thought you might not be to difficult to spot, but w/ all the activity in the transition area and my nerves for the first tri......well, I was somewhat overwhelmed. Definitely left there w/ a big case of BIKE ENVY!! Whoa!!

"Good course - curse the wind." Oh yeah! My event was very similar. Great race, great finish.
