enginerd - 2012-03-23 12:27 PM Sorry I'll be missing out on all the fun. I came down pretty hard witha cold Wednesday evening so I've been laying low. I'm just trying to focus on getting well. I'll be there at the starting line on Sunday, but it may end up being a very long day (or a very short one), but I'll do what I can. It's a shame because the course looks to be a very fast one.

{{{MELON PRESS}}} Donatonerd ... warm healing thoughts and strength for you. I definitely have been missing you and was wondering if you had come down to Oz.

I will also say thank you for your kindness in not infecting the rest of us.

Thank you, your Nerdliness. feeling a bit better but definitely no where near 100%. Would happy with a finish of anytime. How did gear drop off go for everyone? My wife and I drove down to frankston and arrived at about 1pm. They werent letting anyone into transition and there was a line of maybe 20 people waiting. After a short wait (for me. I have no idea how long everyone else was waiting.), they let us in and we were the first ones there. I was wondering what happened to the hoards coming from St. Kilda. By the time we left, towards 2pm, there still didn't seem like that many people there. Also they didn't have any timing chip straps (argh, I should have brought mine), but they said they would be available tomorrow morning.

quiet on this thread post-race.  How did it go for everyone?  Given that I had a chest cold, I was pretty happy just finishing.  Knee issues forced me to pretty much walk the entire marathon, so I spent almost half my race walking.  I hope everyone had a good day out there.

I had the most perfect day, given it was my first IM.

Took the pace really steady so that I gave it my best chance to hold a decent run together, and it all worked.

Came through for a 12:05 finish which exceeded my expectations.

Just got to go quicker next year now - assuming I can get an entry!

Just writing the RR now where more details and thanks will be forth-coming!

I had the best day volunteering sorry I didn't get to hug Nigel but I did give a motivational speech to Yanti - alas she already was hypothermic.

Other great news I gave special needs bags to Clayton Fettel and to Craig Crowie Alexander!  What a day what a buzz!

I started down there at 5am and got home at 1am.

My friend finished in 16.16 a long challenging day for her.

Bring on friday 11am when registration opens - hope to see you all out there next year guys!

Sorry I didn't get to see you Jo - I knew you were at bike SN but I didn't need anything so rode past.  Was pretty busy when I did though.

Tammie, yup, I'm off to Shep, defo catch up there.  I thought you said you might be tempted to enter Melb next year......?

Is anybody keen on a catchup over the weekend sometime?  I know Yanti is still in town and her, me and Joe (cottoneyes) mentioned we might catch up sometime.

I don't think I want to do Melbourne, Nigel. The weather is too much of a variable. We were so lucky with the conditions on Sunday. But even that was cold as Yanti found out and my friend was nearly dragged from the course due to the cold also. Also it's not an ideal time training time for me. I would have to do alot of the longer stuff over the Christmas Holidays which is hard to manage with a school age kid.One of my favorite place to visit is Cairns.....and my brother lives there......!!!!

Just posted my Race Report and added a few pics. Played the best hand with the cards I was dealt, so I have to be pleased with that . . . but is was a little cold for us tropical folks! I will not be signing up for next year. I think the HIM distance offers a better life balance for the next few years - plus, bike riding in Thailand is not that great.

Great race Nigel. Cheers.

I am around Sunday afternoon if you're free...I'm doing Shep - see you there definitely.

I got Cairns 2.80.20 in June, Shepp and Noosa then all eyes on 24th March 2013 for my first Ironman.

Anyone belong to Transitions website?  Mike Reilly says he'll be calling next year!

Yanti, I'm stupidly doing Tough Mudder tomorrow but I will be home by Sunday. I'll have my son with me but we might be able to find something that we will all enjoy seeing as my son is an animal lover.

I'll PM you my number.

Hello guys I apologise not meeting up earlier on. I did not have internet access so I pretty much wandered around during race week.

Anyways congratulations to all who crossed the finishing line! I did it in 14:36 (kinda expecting to be like 16 hours) and it was really gruesome. We were really lucky for the weather haha. This is my first IM though and not sure if I want to go through the same ordeal again.

I regret not meeting up with you guys to catch up, I'm already back in Singapore. Maybe next time at other races?

Take care and train hard!

It can't be just me and you doing the race... can it?

I found a handful of the 'you're on the Melbourne IM course' markers on the road when I was riding last weekend, and then I found the 41km marker near St Kilda on Monday night.   Gave me a bit of goosebumps thinking about it!

Weather looks to be about perfect, let's hope it stays that way!
