HAHAHA you people crack me up. WHADDAYA MEAN you guys were there today, I was there today too, confused and wandering, but still got assaulted with love by two pro triathletes ... I shoulda yelled NIGEY PIE and THECOUCH FROM BT and seen if anyone responded

I have Melbo phone number I'll post soon as I figure out what it is (still dazed and confoozled).

Swiss Tri (sorry I forgot his actual name right now I'm having trouble figuring out my own name ... why does all my Ironman stuff have Arsiyanti on it ... OH DUH BECAUSE THAT'S MY NAME)

suggested a Thur 6pm meetup at some nice italian restaurant, i'll repost, i'm going to that. I'll wear my Beginner Triathlete T-shirt tomorrow too so look for that. if anyone wants to meet up for lunch I'll stand (or sit) about the front of the expo entrance  at 12:30, to the right if you're facing it, on the lawn.

swiss tri - 2012-03-14 9:50 PM All - Here is what I propose: Thursday Night, 6 pm at Sapore Ristorante (Italian), 3-5 Fitzroy Street, St. Kilda, Melbourne, Victoria 3182, Australia. The reviews seem pretty good. #24 out of 1,456 restaurants on Trip Advisor. http://www.sapore.com.au/Drop me a PM if you are interested in joining in on the fun. Cheers.

I passed by there today and it looked very good, looking forward to it.

I also seem to have spent about $1000 today and not even any Ironman gear yet ... WTF happened ... I think I exploded at the expo ... also considering changing what I'm wearing, the bike position etc. etc. ha ha ha! (I won't, but still).

I'm heading in for the carbo dinner, but I think there might be an informal meetup tomorrow when a few others get in to register.

I got all my stuff done this afternoon when it was nice and quiet - realisation started to sink in watching the briefing.  It's here....!

I'm going to the carbo dinner too - will try and find you Nigel!

i drove the run and bike course today . the bike course wasnt as flat as i thought it would be just little ups and downs in the first half then bigger ones in the 2nd half . the last part of the tunnel and first few 100m outs of the tunnel looked pretty steep. and climb on the way back is longer in the tunnel but flattens out no long after you get out.

Thanks for the recon! So sorry you didn't make supper ... four of us were there. Must have been frustrating. It was a very nice dinner but I bet takeaway was much cheaper, so there you go, more money for gear

I'm moving from Chicago to Melbourne in June for the next 2 years.  I'm definitely planning on doing my second IM in 2013, and it would be great to do it in my new 'home town'.  IM Melbourne is the Asia-Pacific Championship, but does that mean it's similar to Kona in that I need to qualify to participate?      I appreciate the help, and good luck on Sunday!!

no qualification just online entry - quickest selling event though i think something like 6mins!  I believe registration opens next week - check the website.  If you can't get in but you're in Australia there is Port Mcquarie, Cairns and Busselton all interstate but in beautiful environments!  I'm thinking about Melbourne for my first one next year, if I don't get in I'll pick up one of the others!

Also you're close enough to try New Zealand in March!

Be nice to have you here in Melbourne!

These are being collected out at bike check in on Saturday (less time for people to lose them and end up in a panic on Sunday morning I guess)

See you all tonight at the welcome dinner

Tri shorts and tri top, gonna put on a close-fitting shell (like a windbreaker with no lining) in T1 and full-finger bike gloves. It's COLD out there!!!

I'm putting a long-sleeve tech top in T2 bag and may even hang onto my windbreaker, I can tie it around my waist if need be. In case the wind dies down and it's not freezing and I can't stand to wear the tri shorts another minute, I'll also have loose running shorts in T2 bag.

Tri top and shorts for me.  Arm warmers if it's cold.  Hopefully it will be warmer than it is today!

See you Sunday at Seaford, Tammie!!!  Unless you're coming down for the carbo dinner?

Sorry I'll be missing out on all the fun. I came down pretty hard witha cold Wednesday evening so I've been laying low. I'm just trying to focus on getting well. I'll be there at the starting line on Sunday, but it may end up being a very long day (or a very short one), but I'll do what I can. It's a shame because the course looks to be a very fast one.

Tammie, I might be able to help there, I'll be driving through around 6-6.30 on the way to the finish line so could stop and pick up anything that you want delivered, assuming the aid station is still operating by that stage.  I'll be parking at the actual sea baths so not too far to have to go from the finish line to pick it up (will be one level below the bike pick up)

{{{MELON PRESS}}} Donatonerd ... warm healing thoughts and strength for you. I definitely have been missing you and was wondering if you had come down to Oz.

I will also say thank you for your kindness in not infecting the rest of us.

Times like these make me happy I'm kinda plump ... the downside is drag. Oh well

I must say that you, Nigel, and Joe are RIGHT PIGLETS and so utterly melon-pressable. Delicious!!!
