Swim
Comments: This swim felt a lot longer than 1500m, but I have no idea what my time was yet so it could have just seemed long. Was feeling pretty refreshed as I swam and not tiring myself out. New the 3/4 point the water began tasting and smelling like diesel fuel and for some reason my cap tightened up around my head. What would you do differently?: Continue training in the pool for speed and at the lake for endurance. Transition 1
Comments: Ran with the bike shoes on again and felt fine. I had room to run and jump on the bike and I was able to successfully get rolling. What would you do differently?: Nothing, maybe increase speed in the transition but I didn't forget anything and got out in what I felt was good time. Bike
Comments: Ran out of water with about 5 miles to go and it was way to hot for that to happen. Noticed cramps beginning to build as it got later and later into the ride so I knew it wouldn't be a good run. What would you do differently?: Have extra water in the transition area and make sure I'm fully hydrated prior to the start of the race. Transition 2
Comments: Dismount was fine but I started really feeling my legs burn and knew something was wrong. Was hoping I could run/walk the 10k. What would you do differently?: Nothing in the transition. I still think this came down to training and pre-race prep. Run
Comments: This is by far the worst feeling I've ever had, my legs completely cramped up and I ended up pulling out of the race 4 miles in. I was barely able to walk so I wasn't going to be able to walk the last two miles. I would attribute this to a lack of training in the heat and not taking enough water with me on the bike. What would you do differently?: More training, better hydration pre and during the race. Post race
Warm down: Ended up sitting on the curb for a while drinking water and gatorade before getting up to try and walk. Was able to walk out the cramps but didn't get back to feeling normal until later in the day. What limited your ability to perform faster: I think I can attribute this as a hydration issue, but I'm also going to blame me lack of training for the 10k distance during the heat of the last few months. Event comments: Still a well put on race by Outloud Productions and I like the new venue. Would liked to have had more drink stations on the running course and maybe some wet sponges, but that could be because I didn't hydrate well enough so I won't include that as a knock on Outloud. Woke up at 4:30, had some coffee and cherrios, then showered and headed to the event.
Set up transition then went for a quick swim to get acclimated and warmed up.
