Subject: Kinetic Power Meter
Looking to add something to my Minoura VSR trainer to give some performance feedback to my winter training. I realize the rear mount Kinetic meter isn't accurate but does anyone know if it would be compatable with my Minoura trainer? Other suggestions? Thanks.

At the office I have a Spreadsheet with a number of power curves for various trainers.  I don't recall a Minoura being one of them though, I'll check tomorrow.  Are you sure its a "VSR" as I don't see it listed on the Minoura website even for the discontinued models.

BTW, it is accurate when used on the KK trainer or CycleOps Fluid 2 (same curve).  I use to have the old KK CPU but just use a spreadsheet to cross-ref the power these days.

With the older KK power CPU you could change the power related parameters to shift the curve.  I'm not sure if you can do this on the new one.

I wouldn't bother with the meter. It's not really a power measuring device. It's just a speedometer with a built-in conversion from mph to watts, designed for a suitably adjusted KK. If you have a rear-wheel speed sensor on your bike (+ power function for the Minoura + any spreadsheet), then you have everything that the KK "power meter" gives you.

My bad; it's a VSF-G model. I guess maybe just a rear wheel speed sensor would be better than nothing. just looking for some measure of performance gains.

I have nothing for any Minoura trainer.  I even looked a bit to see if someone out there used a power meter to record some data points (you know anyone (LBS) with a PM that could do this for you?)

It definitely is nice using power metrics on a trainer based on testing, I felt lost using HR/RPE.

Have used both T-725 W and T-725 WL. Inexpensive, button functions could be better and DO NOT SWEAT on it. Will short out contacts and all functions stop. Worked with their support/warrany (hence the wired and wireless) but my sweat rate kills it. Could change the location, but it does not work in rain or sweat.

For the trainer, I hit lap when I do a particular interval and then just look at avg speed or even distance travelled for that lap.  It's nice to be able to compare similar intervals from the past and see how well I can do them - especially the longer ones.

Since the trainer resistance and conditions are pretty consistent - avg speed for a specific time is pretty close to avg power (i.e. - power is pretty much speed).  Sure there is some sort of curve as you go faster but it's not a big deal.

dcrainmaker has a good write-up about the upcoming CycleOps PowerCal – Heart Rate based power meter estimation, HR strap that cross ref to power that's Ant+.  I'd love to test this out on my trainer and compare it to the KK fluid power curve.
