Last week when I was at my local try shop (Gear West) they just received their Newton MV2 shipment in. I tried on a pair and they were extremely comfortable and crazy light. I would have bought them immediately but was curious about other opinions on racing (1/2 marathon distances) in that minimal/light weight of a shoe. Also, I've run in Newtons for 1.5 seasons.

I would probably do a couple of longer runs in them first, just to see how you feel. With that said, I would think you should be just fine in them.

I tend to think that the Newtons are a bit overpriced for what you get and the durability. I love the Saucony Kinvara's, and, although they don't have a long life (tops at around 350-400 miles), you can find them discounted pretty well online. I got my last two pairs for around $60 each - about two pairs for the price of the MV2.

You should be right as long as you've done your training in them. I did my marathon In my motus (spelling?), which is the stability trainer. I also did about about 500-550km (300-340miles) before I started getting some leg soreness.

I have a pair of the MV2. There are a couple of things you should consider when you purchase them They are similar to a racing flat. They do not have a heel drop. I am a Newton runner and they took some adjusting to. I strongly recommend that you start off slow only doing shorter distances and slowly increasing over several weeks. It will take time for your calves to adjust. Being a midfoot runner it took me some time to adjust.

The shoe is very light. Weight is slightly more than a sandal. I personally love them. They make you run faster and have a faster cadence. They would be great for a half but not sure if I would do a full marathon in them. Maybe. They are more stable than the standard Newtons' and have a firmer feel too. The price is high but you get more milage out of them. I have 500-600 miles on another pair of Newtons' and they are still in great shape. Other shoes don't give you the milage so it pans out.

I'm running on a total knee replacement and have no problems when running in Newton shoes.

Again, take your time adjusting to them and they will perform for you.

I just got a pair of Newtons today and I am very excited to try them out tomorrow. I went to two different shoe stores with very knowledgeable sales people and they helped me pick out the pair to best benefit my foot(arch, size, lug placement, so on).  I would have bought them at the first store but they did not have my size and I can not wait the 10 days to order them. I am going to be running my first 5K in 3 weeks so I need them like yesterday.

The first sales person we talked to told us you can get around 1000 miles out of the Newtons which would make it well worth the extra expanse if this is true. I plan on tracking it to see. She told us the top part of the shoe tends to wear before the sole. She also said the lugs still work well even when they wear down.

The second sales person we talked to manages or owns the store and uses the shoes and loves them. He talked to us for a good hour or so about running (I am new to competitive running but have been running for health for yrs).  So much to learn.

I did some research to see if anyone has run a Ironman or Tri in them and found out the winner of a Ironman wore them as well as many others. That was encouraging.

I will try to write again tomorrow after my run to tell you how it went. The shoes felt great at the store when I ran in them so I am expecting I will love them. I have been working on technique so I believe I should adjust to them fast I hope?

I'd like to hear whether you (anyone) get 600+ miles out of those MV2. I also run in Kinvara and get around 300 miles before they feel worn out. At double the price, I'd like double the miles. Of course, there's a new red Kinvara out that I'll probably buy just because.

I did not get the MV2 I got fitted and got the Lady Isaac they are supposed to be the best fit for my foot. They felt good running around the store but the real test will be tomorrow. Mine unfortunately were a little more pricey then the MV2 which does not help my case I know but it's the truth.

I will be surprised if they last 1000 mile as I looked up the average shoe gets 300-500 miles depending on how efficient of a runner you are. I will track it and see. Both store clerks I talked to seem to think they would last that long but they are trying to make a sale.

Then Newton website says you will get the same mileage out of the Newtons as your other running shoe. If that is the case they better be pretty dang awesome to run in to make it worth it. We will see.

I will know more once I can get out and run in them.

Newtons do wear quite quick... but 3-400 miles is realistic.

Personally, I love my Newton Distance for everyday running (and racing so far), but will try out the MV2 race shoes for next year.

I've got about 500 miles into my Newtons since December and the lugs are barely worn at all. I did however quit running in them because some lower leg pains (that I haven't had since before I got into Newtons) started coming back. Nothing changed about my form and my volume per week is down, so I assumed that maybe the foam inside the shoe had degraded or broken down too much for me.

I couldn't wait for the MV2 so I switched over to the Saucony Grid Type A4 and the pain has gone away. I'd like to pick up the MV2 just to add to the collection but I really don't need them because the A4 has been so good to me.

I believe the wear is consistent with how well one is adapted to the 'natural rinning' form. My first pair of Newtons wore far faster than subsequent pairs. FWIW, I'm anticipating 600+ miles from my current pair.

No adaption needed, always been running this way.

I do wear out the front lugs (the "foam" ones) from push off. Eventually, the shoe starts to feel different and that's when I know it's time to pick up another pair.

Likely you are far faster than me and just 'burning' that rubber on the run. ;-)

I've got several pairs of newtons... its all I currently run in.

One pair of their stability trainers I've got over 400 miles in with no issues, they are still going strong.

I've got a couple hundred miles on a pair of their lightweight trainers as well (what they used to call their racers)

I've also got their trail shoes, not as many miles on them, but I did do a 50k in them last year.  Loved them.

I tend to stick to HIM+ stuff, so I probably don't have much of a use for the MV2, but I might snag a pair just cause I love trying new things.
