Sunny
Total Time = 2h 40m 19s
Overall Rank = 233/994
Age Group = 45-49
Age Group Rank = 22/81
Pre-race routine:

Woke up at 3:30 a.m. Bagel with peanut butter and banana. Coffee.
Event warmup:

Sip water and dynamic warm ups. GU Roctane 1 hour prior to swim start.
Swim
  • 33h 18m
  • 1640 yards
  • 2h 01m 48s / 100 yards
Comments:

Swim felt good. I had lots of trouble navigating. Goggles fogged up immediately. Almost stopped to fix, but pushed through with terrible sighting.
What would you do differently?:

Defog goggles prior to swim start.
Transition 1
  • 04m 4s
Comments:

Huge transition area, one of the longest I've ever seen, muddy from rain the day before. Long run from swim out into T1. Was racked almost at the very end near the run out. Had a good 200 yard run with bike out of and into transition accounts for such a long T1 time.
What would you do differently?:

Practice running in mud barefoot. Add long runs with bike.
Bike
  • 1h 12m 14s
  • 24.85 miles
  • 20.64 mile/hr
Comments:

Good course. Roadway blocked to auto traffic. Railroad crossings X4 covered with carpet helped, but still rough. Overall good course.
What would you do differently?:

Nada
Transition 2
  • 02m 3s
Comments:

Pretty good. In to T2 with just a little Gatorade left in the bike bottle which I finished off prior to heading out on the run. No problems.
Run
  • 48m 41s
  • 6.21 miles
  • 07m 50s  min/mile
Comments:

Legs and cardio felt great during run. Made me think I took it too easy on the bike. Probably should have run more aggressively on first half of run.
What would you do differently?:

Run more aggressively on first half of run.
Post race
Warm down:

Water at finish line. Walked around venue waiting for wife to finish.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Not really knowing the course before hand. Should have been a little more aggressive. Trained on a lot of hills and this course was flat.

Event comments:

Very well organized from start to finish. Lots of schwagg at expo and in race packet. Good volunteer support too. Finish was kind of uneventful. Finisher's medal handed to me with not so much of a word. No finisher's photo, no direction to food, shuttles, or anything for that matter. Didn't know what to do except leave. Everything was great up until just after finishing.
