Run
Comments: Took a while to get my breathing down. Wasn't fully prepared due to front tire blowing just before start. Need to be better prepared in the future. What would you do differently?: Prepared more. Transition 1
Comments: Decent T1 time, could always improve. What would you do differently?: Run more with bike. Bike
Comments: Started out not so good. Had a hard time finding the right gears. Wind would come and go making fining the right gear difficult. About halfway through the race I got in with the "second tire" of bikes (about 20-25) and we kept around a 21MPH average. It was a fairly aggressive group jockeying for position back and forth. Good test! What would you do differently?: Start out better. Transition 2
Comments: Decent T2 time. Need to practice mount/dismount more. What would you do differently?: Not much other than practice mounting and dismounting more. Run
Comments: Was slower than I liked and felt I pushed a little too hard in the bike portion. Positive news was I didn't have any calf cramps like in past races but my hammies were close to spasming. Took a little time to work them loose. What would you do differently?: little more hydration, push a little more. Post race
Warm down: walked around a lot. What limited your ability to perform faster: Bike tire blowing just before race start. Event comments: Great race and had a great time! This was the second year I did it. They need to go back to the original transition area though since there was additional mileage that IMO wasn't calculated getting from the old T area to the new one up in the parking ramp. Go up early at 4:30AM. Loaded bikes for the 2 hour drive but ran very late getting ready and had to speed to get to the registration on time. Made it by 15 min to spare. Race started at 8:30, so we had about 40 min to prepare at that point.
Started stretching and getting transition bag ready to go. Forgot my bike pump so I borrowed someones. Had about 15 min before race started. Aired up my wifes tires then mine. The needle shot out of my front tire! Had to do a quick tire change with no time! I was the only one left in the T area! Jogged down the 3/10 mile ramp to get to the start line and had 15 seconds before the whistle blew to get ready! Needless to say, I wasn't in the right frame of mind.
