I just got back from Madison, volunteered, and registered.  I'm in for 2012!  Who's with me?

Nevermind that registration didn't fill up as fast.  I had a great time visiting, riding the course, and volunteering.  I also was able to pick up quite a bit of inspiration that will boost me during this year of training.  They ran out of inspiration at the IM store, but there was plenty all over the streets!

Anyway, this will be my first 140.6 and the 3rd triathlon that I've signed up for.  I'm extremely excited!  I'm also a bit fearful of that bike leg.

Fear of the bike leg is a good thing. Use that inspiration/fear to train on as many hills you can find between now and then! Most people are surprised at how hills that aren't really THAT bad become so hard especially on loop number two, but they do eat away at you because they don't stop. However, as long as you're prepared they will be not a big deal as you think.

I have the issue of living where it's very flat and hard to get in enough hill training. I did take the commuter rail numerous times over the summer to a place where there are some gentle hills, but I don't have any good hills to train on here.

I plan to do some very high resistance trainer intervals, stair climbing, and lose weight, etc to try and knock down my bike time. If anyone else has good ideas for training for hills w/o having hills... let me know.

I'm completely excited.

I agree about the fear being healthy.  I'm going to embrace it to drive me to train on hills and to train hard!

Did the same thing.  Was my first IM that I attended and was in awe of the inspiration and courage that everyone displayed.  I wanted to jump right in there with them!  Looking forward to next year. Anyone start looking at plans yet?  I am checking out the Don Fink Be Iron Fit and am leaniong towards that as time management is going to be a huge deal for me next year.

Tommy,

I don't know where you can find an IM Wisconsin dvd either.  I just looked at the Ironman store and they don't seem to have any - only championship dvds.  Depending on why you want one, there may be some other choices.  Not to be presuming, but:

If you want to use the dvd for training specifically for the various courses (usually the bike leg), you could get some tips here at BT or you could buy a dvd like the one linked to below.

If you want inspiration, it looks like you might have to use a different IM dvd for now.  Let me know if you find one.  I'd be interested too.

Universal Sports channel usually airs them a few weeks after race.  They have been pretty consistent and Loisville and Madison 2011 should be airing soon. I'll update if I hear anything.

I happen to be the proud owner of the 2008 Race Highlights of the September 7, 2008 IM Wisconsin DVD.
I believe that was the last year they made DVDs.

Hello: First of all, congratulations on registering and taking in this challenge.  I did my first IronMan in 2006 at age 55, in Madison, WI. on a very cold and rainy day.  All I wanted was to finish and I did but the icing on the IronMan cake was to finish 3rd. on my age group.  I had a blast and fantastic memories of this day.  I'm no expert, I'm just a grandma who loves Triathlon but, if I can give you some advise.....if you have hills where you live, by all means, train for the bike there.  You already rode the bike course so you have an idea of how hard those hills are.  The run course has some climbs as well so try to also run some hills in your neck of the woods.  The crowds are unbelievable and the finish line surreal.  This experience will stay with you for the rest of your life.    Good luck!!!!!                                            Maria.
