I've been having issues with my bull horns as the electric tape slips over time which leaves a sticky mess on my bar tape. Any method or different tape to use that stays without slipping? I've been using 3M tape not cheap stuff.

Black duct tape maybe?

Tear it into strips about as wide as electrical tape.

Electrical tape is certainly far better than any of the little strips they send with the bar tape.

Funny you should ask ... especially here in the tropics, electrical tape and even duct tape melts FAST and you get that same slidy sticky mess within a month.

I've been using medical tape and that has worked really well! I mean the thick cloth band-aid type of tape which, if you actually apply to your skin, will take all the hair off.

Good call. It is made to stay on even if you sweat.

Are you stretching the electrical tape when you are wrapping (it is meant to be stretched in order bond tightly).  If not stretched tightly, you will get the goo buildup and won't have a fit that will last due to moisture getting in.

I have had good luck with the tape used on gymnastics bars.  Found it in the pharmacy next to ace bandages.

This is what I do and have never had a problem.

It happens even when I have had bar tape put on by bike shop. I assume they do it right.

I found some black duct tape that does not leave residue that I thought I might try.

The sticky stuff gets on my hands when I ride long and annoys me a bit.

I use gaffers tape for a lot of applications. It's reusable and doesn't shrink. It's cloth-based, like medical tape but doesn't leave a residue. You can usually find it in camera shops.

"I assume they do it right."

Yell

In all seriousness, most bike shop guys- perhaps through no fault of their own- haven't mastered good aerobar taping skills perhaps because:

1. They don't do it often enough.

2. They don't have to ride the result themselves.

That said, I know you know tape isn't supposed to "last" more than a few months, maybe three, anyway. Even though people keep in on their bikes for years here, it shoud be changed with some regularity if for no other reason than the one you outlined (which I agree with) and for appearance.

FWIW, I like electrical tape, the top pro teams use it on their time trial bikes and most pros use it. About the time it's not looking and working good, it's time to re-tape.

I just replaced the crappy electrical tape with Gaffers tape as we had some in the office.  Not sure yet how it'll hold over time but anything has to be better than the ET.

My electrical tape is looking a bit shabby. This sounds like a good winter project. Lots of good suggestions but seems like many do not come in black so I'll probably just stick with it.
