Serpentine Aquathon - Biathlon (swim/run)

Swim
Comments: My hands and legs had become so cold on the run that the lake didn't seem too bad at all. A bit chilly on my skin but the cold didn't sink in. Settled into rhythym quite quickly and overtook a few people on the swim. Collided with other swimmer just before end but no damage done, and managed to avoid all the geese. [Guestimate of section time.] What would you do differently?: Not pause before diving in. Try swimming at a sprinting (rather than comfortable) pace. Transition 1
Comments: [Guestimate of T1 time.] I had double-knotted my shoes and eventually had to pull them off with the laces still done up. Shirt off and goggles on with no problems. (Already had hat on - felt so cold before race started that I had run in my hat!) What would you do differently?: Not double-knot laces. Run
Comments: Started at what should have been reasonable pace but it felt too hard. Slowed down until more comfortable and gradually increased pace. Managed to catch a couple of people who had overtaken me at the beginning. [Guestimate of section time.] What would you do differently?: Warm-up by running a little. Post race
Warm down: Got out of Serpentine, dried off and put some warm dry clothes on. What limited your ability to perform faster: Not warming up before run, not making enough effort on the swim. Event comments: Annual race between running and swimming clubs. Very friendly, enjoyable race but too short for my long course training (and inability to make effort at shorter distances). Nice to have run before swim for a change. Last updated: 2005-09-17 12:00 AM

Had breakfast, repaired zip on tri-suit for umpteenth time and cycled down to event.
Shivered with a huddle of other runners trying to keep warm.
