Louisburg, North Carolina
United States
FS Series
58F / 14C
Overcast
Total Time = 1h 51m 58s
Overall Rank = 121/164
Age Group = Clyde
Age Group Rank = 9/13
Pre-race routine:

5:15 Wake up. Kashi Bar and Gatorade/water. Drive 1 hr to the site.
Event warmup:

Very little. Light stretching.
Swim
  • 12m 51s
  • 547 yards
  • 02m 21s / 100 yards
Comments:

Easy swim, not too crowded. Started on the far left side of the pack.
What would you do differently?:

Could have stepped up the pace a bit. Was concerned with spending too much energy early in the race.
Transition 1
  • 01m 43s
Comments:

Traffic getting out of Transition, and 2 guys stopped where I was to mount bike. Had to stop and wait to get by the guys. Had to start up hill from dead stop rather than a running/jump start. Still, would not have made a huge difference in overall time- maybe 30 seconds.
Bike
  • 1h 00m 49s
  • 15 miles
  • 14.80 mile/hr
Comments:

I really thought I would be 5 - 10 minutes faster on this part of the tri. I kept reminding myself to save energy for the run - probably a mistake.
What would you do differently?:

I would ride harder, possibly easing up the last 2-3 minutes.
Transition 2
  • 01m 35s
Comments:

A little trouble getting bike racked and shoes tied.
What would you do differently?:

Practice this transition.
Run
  • 35m 2s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 11m 16s  min/mile
Comments:

Took walk breaks on 3 of the steepest hills. Overall, the time was close to what I expected. I will continue to train on the run- my weakest event.
What would you do differently?:

Train longer
Post race
Warm down:

Walk, get breathing under control. I was able to recover fairly quickly, I think.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Age, weight.

Event comments:

Ok - best because it is my only at this point. Well run event by FS staff. Great neighborhood volunteer crew!

I was very happy with my performance for my first tri. Training went well, and I grew as an athlete and a person as a result of this effort. I believe I can return next spring to an event even better prepared - and probably not eligible for Clyde status. ;)

Congrats on completing your first triathlon!!! A year ago, I was in the final week leading up to my first, and I remember how excited I was and how accomplished I felt after crossing the finish line. I hope you've caught the tri bug. Maybe we'll see you at some races in the spring!
