Total Time = 6h 14m 53s
Overall Rank = 121/181
Age Group = 55-59
Age Group Rank = 4/6
Event warmup:

No warmup, just some easy stretching.
Swim
  • 46m 39s
  • 2112 yards
  • 02m 13s / 100 yards
Comments:

It was very difficult spotting buoys. There were 3 on the way out to the first turn but I only saw the last one and didn't know it was the last one. I turned because everyone else turned. Same thing happened on the second leg. I had to stop swimming several times to look for buoys and even took my goggles off twice. Several other swimmers had the same issues. Most of the time I had no idea which leg of the swim I was on. Even when we were heading towards the beach it was difficult to see where I was heading. I heard that many swimmers came out of the water down the beach from the finish chute.
What would you do differently?:

I don't think it was my poor sighting since I heard the same complaint from others.
Transition 1
  • 02m 21s
Comments:

Good transition. I took my time getting everything set so I didn't forget my gel, sunglasses, etc.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing.
Bike
  • 2h 57m 59s
  • 56 miles
  • 18.88 mile/hr
Comments:

A great ride, just below my 3 hour estimate but I think the course may have been about 1/2 mile short. I averaged my goal of 18.6 mph.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing.
Transition 2
  • 02m 50s
Comments:

Had to stop and use the restroom but no other issues.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing.
Run
  • 2h 25m 4s
  • 13.1 miles
  • 11m 04s  min/mile
Comments:

Started off stronger than I expected especially after the hard bike. I had never made it past 7 miles without stopping to walk so my goal was at least 8. My pace was right on for the first 7 miles then I slowed but only stopped at aid stations and twice on the bridge (for about 3 seconds only). The last 5 miles were tough. My legs were really sore but I still had energy. I was a little slower than my goal but had a PR on the run so no complaints.
What would you do differently?:

Stop using gels. After 5 on the bike I had enough and didn't stomach the last few. I will experiment with new stuff for next season.
Post race
Warm down:

Walk around, get fluids, pizza and a beer.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

That was my best effort.

Event comments:

Great venue for a race, great volunteers and course. The only problem was with the buoys. Maybe they should use bigger ones or use more.

Course: Out and back about 3 miles north through residential area by the beach then into Fort Clinch Park. Lots of shade, lots of turns but beautiful place to run. My only complaint was at around 8 miles we left the park through a back entrance and over a small bridge. I hate not knowing were the turn is and at that point all I wanted was to be heading back.

Why are you posting this on my race report?

PLEASE DISREGARD THIS POST. There was some spam on one of the comments and I was responding to that. Ron deleted it.
