Subject: Moving to Dallas...anyone from there?
Well...after almost a year of things being up in the air with DH's work, we finally found out we are relocating to the Dallas area in the spring.  I am really looking forward to it.  Kinda hit a big giant plateau with my job and am looking for something new.  Not leaving behind a whole lot here and after the year we have had with family deaths, a new start is a welcome thing.  Anyway, we are looking for some advice.  What areas should we look at?  Steve's office will be in Grand Prairie.  Most importantly, good bike shops and gyms.  Looks like the nearest Lifetime Fitness is about 20 miles from Grand Prairie.  There is a 24hr Fitness in Arlington.  It's going to be weird not living on a coast, but change is good right!!

Hello Dallas newbie

I hale originally from San Anatonio but lived most of childhood in Oak Cliff and Duncanville. Dallas is cool. Lots of choices and room for even foreigners like yourself (that is north of Red River). Most true Texans are very warm and friendly. Anyone not living up to that is not usually from this state. I am just down the road in Ft Hood Texas of course the largerst military base in the free world. Welcome to Texas.

I guess it depends if he will be working in north Grand Prairie or South Grand Prairie and how far he is willing to drive to work each day. I grew up in Arlington and still have relatives there. This is just my opinion but Arlington and Grand Prairie are just too sprawled out. If he will be working in South GP I would look at the Mansfield area. That would put you close to Joe Pool Lake and Cedar Hill State Park. If he will be working in North GP then I would look at the Grapevine area. The Dallas Athletes tri group does open water swim workouts at Lake Grapevine weather permitting. Hope this helps.

this may not be too useful, but in the metroplex most everyone uses Richardson Bikemart (www.bikemart.com). That place rules. Plano Cycling and Fitness (www.planocycling.com) is also a fine shop, just a bit more sales oriented than the loveable and huggable RMB. RBM hosts Saturday rides at 9am, various mileage and speeds. There are a number of dallas area tri clubs and workout crews including Tri Mania, Team Fit to Train (i think), Dallas Multisport and other less competitive ones such as the Dallas Tri Geeks and Tri 4 Him if you're diggin Christianity.
