Sunny
Total Time = 1h 35m 41s
Overall Rank = 27/305
Age Group = 30-34
Age Group Rank = 5/52
Pre-race routine:

Had scrambled eggs, banana and a bagel for breakfast before we got to the race site. Cut way back on water in the morning and didn't have any coffee. This made a big difference in my trips to the bathroom. Got organized felt relatively relaxed for the morning.
Event warmup:

Swam for 5 minutes or so before the start of my wave and treaded water for a good 3 minutes prior to the gun.
Swim
  • 15m 5s
  • 800 yards
  • 01m 53s / 100 yards
Comments:

This was a great swim for me. I knew I was smokin' but my watch wasn't set right. I had no idea of my actual time until splits came up and was pleasantly surprised. I had to breathe every other stroke but my rhythm was good. I feel very very good about my swim performance. 3 minutes faster than last year!
What would you do differently?:

Not much. I'd like to be able to breathe every third stroke and swim straighter but overall I'm very happy.
Transition 1
  • 00m
Comments:

Stumbled a little gettin on the bike but was still able to mount it quickly. Watch not set right so I don't know what actual T1 time was. I decided not to bother with gloves, I think this was a good decision.
What would you do differently?:

Dry both feet. I forgot one and had trouble getting one sock on.
Bike
  • 50m 57s
  • 16 miles
  • 18.84 mile/hr
Comments:

Bike computer says average pace was 19.2. Total time includes T1 and T2. I worked hard on the bike but only dropped 1 minute off last year. Performance was good.
What would you do differently?:

Traim more on the bike. Specific muscles could stand to be stronger.
Transition 2
  • 00m
Comments:

Dropped bike trying to make hard left in transition. Good thing it's so light, I just picked it up before it hit the ground!
What would you do differently?:

Not drop my bike
Run
  • 27m 39s
  • 3 miles
  • 09m 13s  min/mile
Comments:

Quads cramped terribly on both legs at the same time. Also had trouble with cramping in arch of foot. Hated the run the whole way but my time was 2.5 minutes faster than last year. HRM says distance was 3.14 miles and ave pace was 8:50, I like that better. Got passed at the very end.
What would you do differently?:

I'll change one water bottle on the bike to an electrolyte replacement.
Post race
What limited your ability to perform faster:

Primarily leg cramps.

Event comments:

I took 6 minutes off my overall time!!! Finished 5th in my age group and 27th overall in a field of 305. Won my first plaque. Not bad for only one year under my belt.

Thanks guys. It was pretty exciting. If I can drop another 5 minutes next year, I'll be right up there with the best (well, better) of them!
