Since cycling is such an important part of tri, I thought I would pass this along for my fellow SLC triathletes and cyclists.

The Josie Johnson Memorial Ride is on Sat Oct 15th. Dave Zabriskie will lead the ride in memorial of Josie and all cyclists that have died while riding.

Hope to see some of you there.

My thoughts are with the family. It is to bad that the majority of the general public will never know that this event is occuring or has occured. I really was looking forward to the possibility of meeting DZ and riding with everyone. But, something precludes me from attending.

KSL is doing a story on the event, and I wouldn't be surprised to see it in the papers, as well. I am hoping to make it, but not sure I'll be able to. Someone will have to post a report for us.

I was finishing my ride at about the time about the time the throngs were headed to Sugarhouse Park. The actions of many many individuals that I witnessed completely surprised me. I witnessed countless individuals riding through red lights, running stop signs, riding on the wrong side of the rode, improper turns, and riding more than two abreast. It wasn't one or two individuals. I actually lost count. Come on people!!!! This ride was to "raise awareness for bicycle safety" and you ride like that! No wonder motorists are impatient and hate to share the road with us. If we want to live in peaceful harmony with the rest of the vehicles on the road, we need to act the way we want to be treated.

Wow! I'm shocked to hear that. I guess cyclists are in need of as much education as drivers. I have to wonder if they went over general safety rules or passed out information, such as the info listed on the event web site? Of course, everything that you describe would just seem like common sense to me.

I don't know what happened at the event before the group took off. This happened before the event even started. Sorry, I didn't make that clear enough.

Makes sense. I was picturing them on the actual ride coming back to the park. Hopefully they learned something
