Pre-race routine:

Arrived at about 7.30, checked in and set up transition area. Ate a bowl of cereal at about 5 (mistake), then on the drive to the race had a power bar and a banana.
Event warmup:

10 minutes of running, biked the run course, then about 5 minutes in the water.
Swim
  • 11m 33s
  • 500 yards
  • 02m 19s / 100 yards
Comments:

Didn't ever get comfortable in the swim so I was pretty unhappy with it. My form went to crap right away and I never recovered.
What would you do differently?:

Relax and focus on rotating the hips more. Definitely felt too rushed.
Transition 1
  • 02m 10s
Comments:

Fairly good transition. Still new to the taking the wetsuit off thing.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing really, I would like to be quicker, but I think time and practice will get me there on that.
Bike
  • 45m
  • 14 miles
  • 18.67 mile/hr
Comments:

Pretty happy with the ride. My ride is a heavy best and averaging 18.7 is cool with me. I did however drink too much on the bike and it really hurt my run.
What would you do differently?:

Not drink so much... buy a new bike.
Transition 2
  • 01m 12s
Comments:

Good transition, my fastest to date. Only bad thing was that I forgot to put my race number on.
What would you do differently?:

Remember my race belt.
Run
  • 27m 43s
  • 3.1 miles
  • 08m 56s  min/mile
Comments:

Terrible run. The worst part of the race by far. Ran the first mile too hard and paid the price on the big hill at the end of mile 1. I got an incredible side stitch and had trouble breathing for all of mile 2 because there was no wind in my face.
What would you do differently?:

Everything... pacing has been bad for me on my first 2 tri's this year. Drank too much on the bike.
Post race
Warm down:

walking and eating bananas and watermelon.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

poor run performance and poor hydration plan.

Event comments:

Great race, post race was affected by a huge thunderstorm with gusting winds.

I happen to have the t-shirt. Previous years there's been a big smiling corn cob on the shirt, but this year it's this very low-key almost stylish black number with the logo on the upper left in white. I still prefer the bad-ass growling pig on the Pigman shirt!

Btw, great job on the race, Tri Iowa. You beat me by mere seconds!
