What is the sports/tris like in Durham, NC? I may take a job out there this spring.

I started training this spring and I've competed (if you want to call it that ) in two sprints and volunteered at one: the Wilmington YMCA sprint, the Emerald Isle sprint and the Nelson Bay Challenge, respectively.

Good fun, and all of those were FLAT, since they're on the coast. There are a bunch of races in the Triangle, but I don't know about them. Heard they're nothing like flat, though.

Since NC has everything from mountians to coastal areas you can do just about any terrain if you are willing to travel a few hours. Although most of the evetns are sprints. There are a couple oly dist, and I beleive 1 HIM and 1 IM.

Although new to the Tri scene, my wife and I live in Durham.
Not the biggest TRi community, but a couple of decent bike shops and a good Tri shop in Cary /Raleigh (Inside Out sports). There are a few other BTers here in the Trianlge.
The Set-Up Tri series is pretty well put together and run. PM me with any questions or comments. I might not be able to answer them, but I will try...

I'm also new to the Tri thing - Living in Raleigh/Durham area and starting to work with a coach. There are several different races in/around the area through set-up endurance series...(see links above) and there is also the "RATS" group - which a friend of mine and I have considered joining...I haven't found MANY people in the area into TRI training, etc, but there are some of us - and all that I've run across are more than willing to help and train with you! So, if you do head this way and want to join in - just say the word! Good Luck!

I echo what everyone else is saying. Setup Inc does a great job putting on tris in the NC area. Bill Scott is the RD for the NC tri series. Great guy, has good people working for him.The terrain is amazingly varied and the weather permits a long tri season.

You can almost do a tri every week from April until October.
