Run
Comments: Nice run. Pretty flat. Good pace throughout. What would you do differently?: Liked the results and my position going into the bike. I was tired, but didn't feel like I left everything out on the first run. Transition 1
Comments: Unsure of the T1 split time. Garmin was on auto-pause when speed falls below 20 mph, so it stopped as I was changing my shoes. Fortunately, I didn't have to run far in my bike shoes as we could hop on out bike right off the racks. I was still quite slow getting switched and got passed by two or three folks I had passed on the run. Grrr... Need to get tri-specific shoes!! Slow getting clipped in as well. What would you do differently?: Tri-shoes. Take auto-pause off Garmin. Go without socks like I did in my first tri. Bike
Comments: Felt pretty good after the run, and I remember my first tri bike section absolutely flying by and being over before I knew it, so I started out too quickly. I passed two of the people who I had passed in the run, but had passed me in transition (including the women's winner) I had a guy absolutely blow by me on his aero bike, and so I set out trying to keep him in sight. That only lasted about 30 seconds! My quick start, and lack of bike training over the last two months definitely caught up with me. I ended up being passed again the the women's victor as well as four or five other guys. I set my goal to keep her in sight on the bike and to catch her in the run. I did manage to keep her in sight for the bike, but lost her in T2! She was very smooth and quick! What would you do differently?: I definitely started out too quickly on the bike. Need more bike training before this race next year. Hopefull it won't rain for a month straight before the race! get aero-bars or bike from this century. Transition 2
Comments: Unsure of T2 time again - Tech issues... But it was pretty slow. Because i cannot run whatsoever in my bike shoes, I had to stop at the clock and run to the rack in my socks. That's OK, but I didn't un-do my shoes as I was biking in. Leading into the T2 is a hill up and over the bridge so I was working hard up the hill, and coming down pretty fast over the hill - not a good situation to undo my bike shoes. Plus I haven't been practicing...Once to the rack, I was Ok getting the shoes on and running hat on/helmet off. But, it took me long enough that when I came out of T2, the people I had been following were already out of sight. What would you do differently?: Again - tri-shoes. Practice taking shoes off while coasting into t2. Have a towell for t2 to keep dirt out of running shoes. Run
Comments: Decent run, but it was a little tough coming out of T2 and having no one in sight. I was a little inspired by a biker who came in just behind me in T2 and I didn't want to be caught by him, but I had no one in front to set my sights on. In fact, I wasn't even sure if I was going the right way for a few minutes...I just tried to push a good pace and see if I could make up any ground. Eventually, I spotted a couple people in front of me, but they were too far ahead, and I didn't have enough to catch them. Little disapointed that my pace dropped off as much as it did -over 7 minute miles, but I was definitely working. Post race
Warm down: Just hung out for while eating bagles/bananas etc.. Lots of food! What limited your ability to perform faster: Lack of (recent) bike training. Tri - equipment. Event comments: Really well done race! Lots of very nice folks helping out - Clearly marked and smoothly run. I was really pleased! Will do it again. Last updated: 2005-10-31 12:00 AM

Woke up way too early due to Daylight savings. Realized this and fell back asleep on the couch. Woke back up a little late and barely got there on time! I REALLY need to motivate better on race mornings! Stressful drive arriving in town about 5 minutes before race time! Nice folks at registration table who got me signed in and and set up quickly. I was a little dehydrated after a late night out last night at a halloween party. Hmmm... not the best pre-race routine...On the drive down, had a 16oz.bottle of water and some sips of gatorade. Had my usual bowl of cereal and only got down half a cup of coffee.
Got a few minutes to stretch during the pre-race announcements. Didn't hear much a what she said because I was still ettending to my transition set-up and getting a quick stretch in. This lack of stretching cought up to me towards the end of bike when I got cramps in both of my calves and left hamstring. Fortunately, it was only at the end, and once I started running, they went away.
