Pre-race routine:

1.5 Cliff Bars
Event warmup:

Virtually none :)
Run
  • 28m
  • 3.11 miles
  • 09m  min/mile
Comments:

Well I didn't get to warm up at all. I was to busy talking with the contestant and my fellow tri club members. I paced myself really well for this first 5k. In all of my previous du's I always did the first run to fast.

I came in from the run with minimal effort and felt really good
What would you do differently?:

Definately warm up :)
Transition 1
  • 01m 30s
Comments:

The only reason T1 took so long was it was a REALLY LONG T1... Probably 50 extra yards... but besides that it was not a problem. I brought my milk crate to sit on while changing shoes and was the envy of all the other racers!

Bike
  • 1h 04m 20s

  • 18.65 mile/hr
Comments:

This was probably the best bike I have had. I paced well and didn't over do it. I hadn't been riding much over the last four weeks so I wasn't sure how it was going do.
What would you do differently?:

I decided to do this race at the last minute. While I don't regret it, the bike is where I could have done better. I definately needed more brick workouts
Transition 2
  • 01m 30s
Comments:

Same long transition area but we got to ride most of it this time :)

Run
  • 32m
  • 3.11 miles
  • 10m 17s  min/mile
Comments:

Well... I remember now why we do bricks.... I felt the run in my hips/butt just like on my first ever duathlon... I had to laugh at my newbie-ness.

I also got hungry on the run ... that is a first for me.
What would you do differently?:

Bricks!
Post race
Warm down:

Walked straight to the refreshment table and ate 6 chocolate chip cookies and drank a ton of water.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

The transition from bike to run... I had forgotten how hard that is.

Event comments:

It was a very small field. Probably 30 to *maybe* 40 people. The vast majority of the participants were in shape and had nice rides. Even the old guys!

On a funny note, while we were gathered at the start the bunch of us were talking and joking around then BANG! the guns go off.... I guess they said screw that "on your marks get set" stuff.... haha! The gun surprised us all as we stood there for a split second before realizing the race had started!

Hey Matt,

Good job on all 3 legs. Did the Tiger Tri last year and as I recall the bike was pretty bumpy. I can never recall being hungry at the end of a duathlon, you must being really burning it up.
