:-O Having a hell of a time with my knees still, and think I may have to go to recumbent, if i'm going to continue doing this. When I use them at the gym, my knees don't hurt at all, but my regulard bikes create a lot of pain. Anyone know anything about this?? I assume they're slower, but hey, i'm just happy to be visualizing the finish line, regardless of time. ;^/

almost all tri's are sanctioned by USAT(usatriathlon.org) and do not allow recumbant bikes under the details in the rule book, 5.11 Bicycle Specifications. Some of the longer races also do not allow even mountain bikes--best to check each race's rules section for that one.

if not, see about getting properly fitted at a 'quality' bike shop -one who fits bikes soecifically for the endurance athlete.  there r many aspects of an un-properly fitted bike that can cause your knee problems.  worth a tri!

I would take you, your knees, and your bike to a local bike shop and get fitted to your bike. Chances are that's whats causing your knees to hurt. Believe me, I have been through it all!
Chances are your seat is too low, your frame is too small or large, your seat is too far forward or too far back..........
Usually, the shop tha sold you your bike will fit you to it for free, you just have to ask. But if not, most bike shops will do it for pretty cheap. Paying for a bike fit costs lots less than medical bills!!!

Go get checked out on your bike at a bike shop. I was having trouble with hot spots in my shoes and skin tears from my bike seat and my bike shop spent time to find out why With a few adjustments and the proper saddle, I didn't have those problems anymore.

I have to agree with the other posters, proper fit may solve all of your problems.
