I was out of town last night at a meeting in Mississippi and this is a copy of the email I received from my wife today while I was in a meeting.

Christopher did not want to go to bed and made every excuse you can imagine to keep from going to his room. I finally got him to bed around 9:00. As I was tucking him in, he asked, "Is Daddy staying in a hotel tonight?" and I said yes. "Poor Daddy," he said. I agreed without telling him that on some nights, I would love to be alone in a hotel room, sleeping as much as I wanted without interruption! Then Christopher said, "But he has to stay in a hotel because he can't stay with her." "Who?" I asked. "That lady," Christopher replied. I have to admit my curiosity was peaked. "What lady?" I asked. Christopher just buried his head in his pillow. "Christopher, what lady?" He still refused to answer. "WHAT LADY, Christopher?" He turned to me and said, "Miss Assippi." In relief, I explained to him that Mississippi was not a person, but a place.

I am glad she finally got him to tell her what he was thinking, I was about to get in trouble for somehting that I didn't do!

Good stuff, Michael.  Just last week we were at the mall and my 5 year old daughter asked me "Why did you marry mommy?"  I looked at her and said "Why do you ask?"  She told me "Because mommy loves someone else."

Curiosity certainly started brewing, so of course I asked her "Who does mommy love more than me?"  My daughter just smiled and said "Danny." Puzzled, I looked at her and obviously she knew I had no idea who she was talking about, so she said "DANNY daddy....DANNY from Grease!!"  As it turns out, my wife was watching Grease a few weeks ago and told my daughter that when she was little, she thought John Travolta was handsome.  The five year old took that conversation and ran with it.

Kids are too funny.

Ha, when my now 9 year old was about 4, I came home early from work one day. He told me they had fun while I was gone, all 3 of them. Well, I wanted to know who else was there, he said his other Daddy, Steve! When I asked my wife, she did not know who "Steve" was. I placed my hand on her chest to feel her heart and asked again. No change in heart beat. We then asked Zachary again, he said "You know Mommy, Steve"....

Later that day, a repeat of Blues Clues came on, he started yelling, "There he is, my other Daddy, Steve"..................
I bought dinner that night.

Great story!!

Yesterday I caught my 6-year-old nephew in a fib.  Not a grand-daddy, but enough that I was going to run with it and let him know that a.) It's not OK to lie, and b.) To make him realize that he can't "beat" me.  Long story short- we went our rounds and finally a look of defeat passed across his poor little face.

"How did you know?" he asked me.

"Because I'm smart," I replied.

"But I'm smarter than you are."

I couldn't help but laugh, but reassured him that he is very smart - which he is - for his age; but has a ways to go to catch me.
