Subject: Medical advice?

I have two disks in my neck that are bone on bone - I have been living with constant pain for about 15 years waiting for the technology to improve (I would rather live with the pain than have the disks fused which would deginerate the disks above and below the damaged area, thereby eventually requiring more fusing). So now I'm starting to hear about disk replacement becoming common - does anyone have any advice, information direction to offer me?

I would say keep waiting it out till it becomes a lot more common place. I have had friends who had "new surguries" and five surguries later their knees are still not the same. I had a lot of neck problems in high school and when I got to college I was forced to do a lot more neck strenthening and hardly ever had problems because my auxillary muscles were so much stornger taking the pressure off the verts. So my advice is put some neck excersises or more neck excersises into your routine.

Maybe if your head wasn't so big your neck wouldn't hurt.

Well, a brain weighs what, like 8 pounds? Those of us with big brains will just have to deal with neck pain - as those of you (Haley) who are full of siht will have to deal with knee pain. Life goes on - however, I asked for some advice about a real issue - if you want to insult me any further, start your own thread and do it there.

Here is the company website for the replacement discs.  http://www.spinemedica.com/

They are about 5 years from being FDA approved in this country.  The product is available in Europe now.  I have a friend from Georgia Tech who is head of the research.

I had my back 'done' in 2001 - different procedure, but I used a doc named Paul Maurer.  Same guy that did Ted Turner's back. He's absolutely the best in terms of new technology, approach to finding the right solution.  I'd get your doc to send him the info for a consult.  He'll know all the applicable technologies and risks.  I trust this guy and have no reservations about recommending him unconditionally.  He's in Rochester, NY.
