Comments:

Started toward side and rear, did not want to be up front! Tried to run at easy pace, did not want to overexert going into bike. Got passed several times, but eventually got into groove and did ok.
What would you do differently?:

Run @ faster pace, too much left coming into bike.
Transition 1
  • 00m
Comments:

T1 was pretty easy - most of the bikes were gone around me, so didn't have issues with bumping into others. Got into shoes ok - fumbled a bit w/tieing shoes, got helmet on ok, wore biking gloves during run, start point was 10 ft away so didn't have far to go, got on clipped in just fine and took off.
What would you do differently?:

Do something different w/bike shoe laces - lost some time tieing them, but overall thought went pretty good.

Comments:

Legs felt little tight @ beginning, but was able to maintain pretty decent pace right off. Passed some people right away and kept after whoever was in front of me. Eventually passed everyone close and chased the pack 1/4 - 1/2 mile ahead. Passed one more guy, never caught pack but was great motivation to try. Pulled into park riding hard to finish, slowed too soon, guy @ mat said keep coming so I sped up and braked and walked over mat. Drank 1 bottle accelorade - 1/2 bottle water
What would you do differently?:

Someting w/shoe strings on bike shoes, make sure equip works week of event, not night before! Bike computer did not work - even after putting in new battery, so rode whole ride w/o.
Transition 2
  • 00m
Comments:

Rack was 10 ft from finish area so did not have far to go, but rack was full when I got in, had to squeeze bike in and was worried I'd knock someone's off. Got bike in - had trouble getting helmet unhooked - WOULD NOT unlatch! Eventually got off - slipped running shoes on - thank god for no-tie laces! Ran to exit area and off to run again! When I was struggling w/helment there were a several people already finished w/race just standing around talking - I was a bit self concious w/helment struggle, but that passed.
What would you do differently?:

Unhook helmet while going to rack.

Comments:

Run was better than expecting - but still fairly slow pace. Did not walk any, but got passed 3x's. Was hoping for stronger run finish, had stitch in side and was pretty happy to finish!
What would you do differently?:

Should have run some bricks! Drink more water on bike - and try to get a gu down before run.
Post race
Warm down:

Stretched, walked around.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Lack of running base - needed to work more on speed and longer strides.

Event comments:

Glad first race is over, somewhat disappointed in running portion, but finished better than hoped for! 7/8 in age group - 119/150 overall.

Lori - I'm bummed we didn't get a chance to meet. Thanks for your encouragement. I had a lot of fund and it sounds like you did too. May I suggest bungee-cord laces for your running shoes? any running store will have them. Good luck and hope to see you on the circuit. Kevin
