Excessive "Sent Items"

Error message - "You have an excessive number of messages stored in your 'Sent Items'. You cannot send any messages anymore before you delete some expired mail."So I deleted a bunch of sent items and I still got this message. So I deleted a bunch more, still got the message. I now have no sent items and I'm still getting this message. Ron please help.(I would have PM'd you this and not put this on the forum, but uh....I can't)
