![]() Swim
Comments: Easy organized start. Pool COLD--colder than the Y! Choked a few times, missed a few turns, but passed a lot of people. Didn't go out too hard, kicked it up at the last 50. Not bad for no swim training-in 20 years. What would you do differently?: It would be excting to really train at swimming again. I could go so much faster. But other than that, I am happy with this swim considering. ![]() Transition 1
Comments: This is an estimate, there was a lot to do considering it was so cold out and I had to get layers and my running capris and cycling gloves. Went well, tho. Had everything laid out in order on my Little Mermaid towel. What would you do differently?: Went great considering. So much better in warmer weather. I am going to get a tri-suit for sure next year. ![]() Bike
Comments: I had a smile on my face the whole time. It felt so good to bike. I love my bike, I felt strong the whole time. I didn't start the bike computer correctly so all I had was mph, but that kept me on track. I stayed at 17-18 mph most of the way. It was such a difference in my borrowed mountain bike. I stuck a power bar to my top tube and had a handy snack. Drank Power Ade Endurance formula. It really helped. My avg was affected by the hills coming back. I didn't want to push too hard because I am such a slow runner. What would you do differently?: Train on the bike a lot more. This was my first-ever ride over 10 miles. Get clipless pedals for Christmas. I really think I could get into this cycling thing. Then all I have to worry about is being a slow runner! ![]() Transition 2
Comments: Stripped off layers, threw on running shirt. Felt good. Couldn't run off the bike, my legs were jelly. Walked bike back to transition. What would you do differently?: Nothing. ![]() Run
Comments: I had to have my headphones. Spent a little time strapping on to my arm, but glad I did. Chuck D. brought me home. I felt GREAT at mile 2, and stopped feeling great at mile 2.5. Had a runner's high for exactly .5 miles. I didn't eat any GU, figured it wouldn't help me, plus I had never tried it. I walked a litlle here and there after mile 3. I could have sprinted in, so I know I could have gone a little faster, running is mental for me. I have never ran 4.8 miles before! I was pretty surprised by a sub-10 minute mile pace, tho. What would you do differently?: Lose weight and keep running. Running is my weakest and all the fast women are thinner. ![]() Post race
Warm down: Talked to my husband and took a shower! Should have walked a bit. What limited your ability to perform faster: Being my second triathlon and my first longer-distance triathlon. Inexperienced on the bike and the whole thing in general. I will have the winter to work on specific sports and come back in the Spring. I am really looking forward to it! Event comments: I don't have a lot to compare it to. But the post-race was a little thin, the small sub-sprint tri I did locally had raffles, give-aways, amazing foods, free towels, nice atmostphere. But this was a fun race, and organized. Last updated: 2005-10-10 12:00 AM
