Pre-race routine:

Got up at 3:30AM, got my stuff together and headed out to Billy's house. I picked him up around 4:45 AM and went to buy coffee for the ride to the race. The coffee was definitely one of the all time worst cups I have ever had. Peet's Coffee, there is no substitute. Got the race site at 5:15 AM.
Event warmup:

Billy, Mike Willson and Ed (aka Other Dude) walked to the start.
Run

Comments:

I am happy with my new HR zones and the way I managed the race. I planned to stay in my endurance zone (159 - 179) until mile 10. Then, open it up a bit into the LT zone (184 - 194) for the last 5K (3.1 miles). I fought the urge to go faster early on and had enough left in the tank for a final kick.
What would you do differently?:

I would get a more sleep the night before and eat more as well.
Post race
Warm down:

Walked and stretched while I waited to see Billy come in.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Nada.

Event comments:

This race gets bigger every year. It is awesome to have it in our backyard. It is a well organized weekend of events.

Congratulations to my bud, Billy. Major breakthrough today in running 13.1. Now you have a taste of what lies ahead in order to train for and complete the HIM this November.

Super race!  It's crazy the times to have to get up, but you sure appreciate it when you're out of the sun and done by 10!  Glad the HR worked out for you.  Nice time.  Enjoy your last week of 'freedom!'

Friggin' awesome time! Wished I could have done this race- as it's in my backyard too, but I'm not quite ready for the half yet. Did 11 miles on Saturday, so I'm getting there. Was this a race you'd do again? Well organized?
