Subject: First Tri (sprint) - What to bring?I am doing my very first tri - a sprint on Catalina Island on Nov. 8. (www.pacificsportsllc.com )
I have been training for only 5 weeks and because I am already in fairly good shape (former rugby and water polo player ), feel that my condensed preparation is enought to get me past the finish line (we'll see! ).
Anyway, I currently train for running with an old pair of shorts, ride a mountain bike with slick tires, and swim with an old pair of long trunks, goggles I found at my gym's "lost and found", and a half-rotten swim cap.
My questions: For the swim portion I was wondering if I need a wetsuit (if so, what works best? ). Water temps are in the mid 60's. Also, do I need those hard-core looking ocean goggles? What should I pack in terms of food, water, bike repair equipment, etc.?
I can see myself being totally disorganized and running in the wrong direction or knocking down an entire rack of bikes without knowing! This should be a blast. I love being a rookie because everyone else out there was in my shoes at one point! |
