well, my pool is now closed. it was supposed to close in late march, early april, to be demolished and rebuilt as a huge aqua center. water slides, zero depth pool, nice new olympic lap pool, new locker rooms, etc. i've been feeling a mix of emotions - happy at the idea of having this new aqua center so close to home, especially for the girls...and irritation at the prospect of figuring out new places to swim until the two outdoor pools open in june.

last time i was there, one of the other regulars told me that the motor was on the fritz (again), and if it broke again, they would not fix it and the pool would close earlier than planned. i called today to make sure it would be open and - CLOSED. and now? i'm really really SAD.

this was the pool i started my tri training in, and where i did the majority of my swimming the last two years. its where fiona first started to swim, and where ella JUST started being brave and going under water. i still have my punch card (it can be used at the outdoor pools in june, but still - i had figured i would use up all my punches at oxford before it had closed). i'm sad oxford, as it has been, will be gone. it might have had technical problems, the motor was always breaking, the ac was always conking out, the showers were either full blast exfoliation or a cold trickle...but still, it was OUR pool.

Well that was a very nice tribute.......it is sad to see familiar things disappear, but how fortunate that they are building a "new" and improved place for you and your children. There are so many cities that lack good quality swimming facilities. Good luck with finding a place to swim until the new facility is built.

I felt kind of the same when they rebuilt the pool in the park. The new pool has cool stuff - (A pirate ship!), and there is a separate 25yd lap pool, so you can swim without kids in your way.  The old pool was 50m and had a certain shabby appeal.
