Subject: New Bike Computer
Received my new bike computer today (Cateye Astrale 8) that I got from Ebay. Waited until after supper to install it. Well 1 hour later I got it all together and had two rubber parts left over. After re-reading the directions about 3 times, I saw the part/picture I missed. How dumb was that? The computer works just fine, but I can't leave it that way.



So now tomorrow, I have to go to home depot and find some more of those black ties in order to fix my mistake.

Sometimes I wish I would just let the experts do the work, but no, I have to try to save a buck!!!!!!!!

All it takes is an interest and patience, great job! If you have not had a cateye product before, I really think you'll like your astrale 8. I've used cateye since 1987. That's when I first started cycling. Anyway, enjoy! :-)

I'm impressed that you tried it yourself. I read the instructions, KNEW I couldn't do it, and bribed my teenage son with homemade cookies to do it for me. Not surprisingly, the bribe worked, and I have my bike computer installed.

I'm impressed.  I had the bike shop do mine.  I am usually pretty good with hooking things up but I wouldn't have the patience to mess with the bike computer.  I also have the Cateye Astrale 8.  Works great.

You're a mechanical genius, if you ask me. The first one I put on myself, and amazingly I had no extra parts. But it took me forever, doesn't work, never has worked and probably never will work unless I take it into the shop, which I never will do because it' s on a bike I never ride anymore. So I shoulda just sent you the $35 bucks in the first place. I have computers on my training bike and race bike that work just great, installed by the shop. Frankly, I'm amazed the things work as well as they do, consdering it's basically nothing more than a magnet set up on some pretty close tolerances.

Hey Nice Job!

I have a Cateye Astrale 8 too. Don't worry I also had to use more ties, actually one yellow and white to fix my mistakes.

Quick question. How did you fasten the cadence magnet onto your crank? I tried using the plastic fasteners the bike shop gave me, but the magnet keeps "slipping" just a little, and then the sensor can't pick up the signal, thus no cadence monitor. I probably just need to bite the bullet and take it to the bike shop and ask for help.

I used the plastic tie provided. Tightened the heck out of it--we'll see if it holds. If not I will use the plastic tie and a drop of metal glue.
