Total Time = 1h 33m 5s
Overall Rank = 28/67
Age Group = 30-34
Age Group Rank = 5/7
Pre-race routine:

2 Packages of Instant oatmeal, 12oz Gatorade, 12oz water 2hrs before start. Sip on Cytomax on the way.
Event warmup:

None, this was my screwup.
Run
  • 19m
  • 2 miles
  • 09m 30s  min/mile
Comments:

Had a decent run for the conditions. Was not prepared for the course to be so hilly though.
What would you do differently?:

Warm up before the run. I woke up with plenty of time, but just fiddle farted around the house for too long and forgot about the 30 min drive time.
Transition 1
  • 00m
Comments:

I forgot to hit my lap counter so I don't know what my transition time was. Non chip race, I'll just guess about 1:30. 1 gel and big gulp of water. Also my first race so everything was an experiment.
What would you do differently?:

Get to the event earlier so I wasn't at the very back of the transition area.
Bike
  • 52m 32s
  • 17 miles
  • 19.42 mile/hr
Comments:

I thought I rode a good race. Never got passed and passed a good number of people. Course marshalls did a damn good job of controlling traffic. I probably drank a little too much on the ride and felt it sloshing around for a few minutes once it hit the second run.
What would you do differently?:

I really don't know. Maybe push a little harder on the downhills.
Transition 2
  • 01m 40s
Run
  • 19m 10s
  • 2 miles
  • 09m 35s  min/mile
Comments:

Drank a little too much Cytomax on the bike and it was sloshing around pretty good. Had to walk the crest of two hills.
What would you do differently?:

Train for hills more.
Post race
What limited your ability to perform faster:

My fitness, plain and simple.

Event comments:

This was my first race and it was a good learning experience for me. There were a lot of teams racing so it made things a little funny but it did spread out the race well. I had a damn good time, but realize I need to step up my training.

Nice job and congrats on your debut. Great job on the second run being so close in time to your first one. We have to climb bridges to get 850 feet of climbing in our rides down here in LA.

Thanks.

Hey that Perdido Pass bridge is a beast when you've been riding into a headwind for 2 hours. Every time I've ridden over it I've had the craziest crosswind blowing me all over the place.
